Dare to be different, if it turns out great you can claim you planned it that way.

You should have a couple of classifications for noise.....like idle chop and blower surge amongst others.

Depends on the application. Of course reliability must come first in all engine combos in my eyes. My preference for a race application would be:

    1. Reliability
    2. Cost (pretty much determines HP)
    3. Maximum HP
    4. Maintenance (I don't mind doing maintenance. Getting ready to do some this weekend at the oldman's shop)
    5. Noise (Doesn't bother me either way)
    6. Looks (who cares what it looks like)

    # 2 cost because if you have the $$$$$$$$$$$ the rest can be taken care of.
    but after 1; cost
2; reliablity (its no good if its broken)
3; maxinum hp (its all about how fast it will go)
4; maintenance (half to do it to keep reliablity)
5; looks (if the rest of the boat/car /truck or bike is nice why not finish it right.
6; noise ( it is what it is )

    This is getting interesting already.
Appearance seems to be way down the list for most but that was brought up a lot in recent dsicussions.

    3) Reliability, Dependability, and Repeatability. without those three attributes, save yourself some anguish and keep it on the trailer.
    2) Cost. because that will effectively determine how much a person will spend to obtain:
    1) Maximum HP produced or capabilities.
    4) Maintenance. only as it relates to 3) above. will those attributes be sustainable for several hundred 1/4 mile passes? or are we just talking about towing innertubes?
    5) Complexity or Simplicity, only as it affects 3) above. if the boat is filled with complex systems and components, component failure probability increases.

    36) Appearance. form, fit, function. beyond that, chrome don't win races.
    37) Noise. gimme a break...
