    Default long rod 427

What would you expect to be the benefits of a 6.385 con rod in a 3.76 stroke motor ? Could there be balancing issues? and how much power can a forged gm 427 crank take? Do you think a striped 671 will out perform a non striped 871? The reason I ask is I am considering building a 427 for my drag car and I have some parts that I would like to use up. Thanks.

i dont think u can put a 6.385 rod in a std deck block...i believe the piston will hit the valves...i think u can put the rod in a truck block or tall deck...the forged crank is pretty damn strong...the early L-88 motors (alum heads) ran pretty damn good in the 60's...i like the idea of the 6-71 & think u would be better off with it...i think the 8-71 is too big!...one ?? u have to ask urself is...how much power do u want to make & how fast/quick do u expect/want to go?...what kind of trans are u gonna use?...what gear in the rear end...go check out www.yellowbullet.com there are many forums that can help u out prob better than on here
this is just my .02 cents & MHO

You can put a 6.385 rod in a 9.8 block, just have to have the right compression hieght ( pin location ) in the piston, would be the same piston as my 496, (mine has a 6.135 rod )4.25 stroke,
The crank will work as will either blower , Trying to compare blower's is hard ,depend's on the condition of each,,
use up the part's, lol , ..............Eric

I know of at least 1 GM 427 crank that has been alive for many years in 1000+HP Blown gas deal.

    there isn't a problem fitting a 6.385 rod in a 3.76 stroke/short deck app.
as said earlier, just a matter of the correct pin placement on the piston.
I just finished a customers engine (Oddball combo) 4.310 bore, 4.00 stroke
6.535 rod in a 9.8 deck block! (those Cometic head gaskets sure come in
handy, being able to order custom thickness) gonna fire it up today, we'll
    see how it runs!

Thanks for the replies . You know that when it comes to a rebuild and your into it crank rods pistons at that point its just not very much more expensive to go stroker big inch motor . So I am just weighing it out 505 or 427. The problem is that sometimes I get cheep and try and use parts I already have ,in this case ,crank and rods.

.031 sticking out of the deck! (like I said, odball combo of using parts that
customer already had) but a set of .070 Cometics fixed that problem. I
won't get into the other headaches with this build, OR WHY it was done,
let's just say It's done, and done as right as it could be for the combo of
    parts used!
