    Default BBF Dizzy

I am trying to find out what is good budget dizzy for BBF. I do not want to pay 300.00 - 400.00 for one from MSD.
This is going on the family boat and it is a stock 460. I do not want to run a box or points.
    What are your suggestions?

1984 bbf 1 ton truck dizzy, they have a great mechanical advance and mag pickup in them, 60bucks reman from any parts store. i never buy msd dizzy's for bbf, always use that dizzy on stuff i build or help with. it'll have 3 wires coming outta it, the orange and purple hook right to a msd box

Dare to be different, if it turns out great you can claim you planned it that way.

used 6a msd box can be found pretty easily for under a 100, i see them all the time. msd box failures imo are installer errors, some people just don't know how to properly connect wires in a marine enviroment. i've never had 1 of my boxes lay down on me, ever i've owned at least 10 of em of the yrs in dirt track cars, boats, autos etc. for under 180bucks you could have multispark, jus a suggestion normal ignition has hell firing fuel with water in it, which happens a lot on the lake, or get flooded 1 good time and she won't bust off

You do anything to them, or run them right out of the box? I have one of those & may use it myself. The old Prestolite in there now has seen better days. Whats your thoughts on the Mallory Unilite dist.?

The Ford Motor Company electronic distributor, known as the DuraSpark electronic ignition system. The magnetic pickup coil and reluctor in the FoMoCo dizzys are the EXACT same ones used by MSD in their distributors, which is why MSD shows in their instructions how to hook up their MSD box to a Ford DuraSpark dizzy or MSD dizzy to a Ford box.
    • Remanufactured DuraSpark from your parts store: $60
    • Recurve Kit: $12
    • DuraSpark box from the local yard: $20
The OEM distributors don't have shiit for advance curve, so the recurve kit is mandatory.

We have known these setups to provide stable spark well past 7000 rpm and to support 2000 hp blown alcohol engines. If you want a freshly remanufacured/recurved DuraSpark dizzy that is pre-tested and ready to drop into your engine, just PM me and let me know.

i've ran them outta the box and took them apart to tack them locked, just depending on what i was helping with or building.the recurve makes em work alot better, but you can also just put in lighter springs so it gets to max timing faster, at least that's what i've done a couple times. i can remember a couple of times just dropping in from outta the box, ask jetboat steve, that's what i did to his

I looked at those with the recurve job on LO's website once before. I bought a Mallory Unilite from someone here on the boards awhile back, but haven't ever used it. Its gonna be a bit before I do anything, either way about it.

mallory makes great fuel components, everything else, not so much i'd trust the factory dizzy over a mallory anyday.
