Default Feel Dumb, carb adapter question inside.

    Damn very frustraiting lol.

Trying to get a square bore carb on a spread bore. I have this adapter
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Holle...3286.m20.l1116

I don't understand how to tighten the adapter down onto the spread bore manifold? I get how to get the bolt through the bottom of the adapter, to the carb, but how do I wrench down the adapter to manifold?

Anyone have any experiences with this?

Put the bolts that hold the carb to the adapter through the adapter first. The hex head is held by the hex hole in the adapter.

Bolt the adapter to the intake. The bolt threads will now be facing up.

Set the carb on top of the bolts you put in the adapter before bolting it down to the manifold. Put the nuts & washers on and tighten.

Start the engine and wish you had a better intake.

I don't understand how to bolt the adapter to the intake? The intake bolt holes are the inside holes from the ebay picture. There doesn't appear to me at least a way to really bolt it down

i would imagine the other side holes that are used to bolt the adapter to the card are resessed so the bolts sit down inside the adapter. I cant tell because that picture only shows one side.

There are adapters for many different situations.

Exactly, what intake manifold do you have ? There maybe a better solution than what you are doing...depending on intake you have.

BD explained how to use adapter in picture well.

if it isn't that obvious how it bolts on with directions on this thread, and based on your comment about the location of the other holes being differant than the pic,I would bet that the adaptor you have is for putting a Q jet on a sq. bore manifold.

Friends don't let friends do Ebay.

What intake manifold are you using ? Again, depending on the answer there may be a better way.

I didn't buy this adapter, I already had it in my spare parts bin. But it is the same one on the ebay ad, just too lazy for me to take a picture. It's just a cast iron manifold on a '75 350, trying to get this carb on it, More than likely just buy another intake

Buy another intake or go back to a quadrajet carb. Don't do what Merc did and use an adapter for a squarebore carb to fit on a GM quadrajet intake manifold.

I had one of these adapters on Lowrider when it was new (holley 4150 onto a GM big block iron spread-bore (q-jet) manifold. It's on the wall now since the new RPM Air Gap manifold was bought to fit square bores.

Mine uses 4 very short screws (1/2 inch to 3/4") to mount it down to the manifold after installing hex-head bolts in the adapter (which are held from falling out by the manifold). These act as studs and the carb (or Marvin Miller nitrous plate and carb ) slide down over them, followed by washers & nuts (I prefer Nylocks).
