    Default Oil pump question

does the pickup need to be welded to the pump or can it be brazed?

You can do either. I would Tig Weld it. The brazing process gets the pump real hot. I would be afraid to warp it. That is just my opinion. Maybe someone who knows what they are talking about will say something else.

I'm in the same stage of doing this also, but I'm also curious as how to measure and confirm the pickup to pan depth and what depth should it be ?

found out what i was looking for, it should be fine anywhere between 1/4 - 1/2 inch from pickup to bottom of pan. The manufacturer should be able to provide the specific # for a particular application. Mine was 3/8 of an inch. Also the torque spec for a bbc oil pump bolt is 65 ft/ lb. Hope that helps anyone out there.

Dont run a bead all the way around which will really heat the pump; just tack it in a couple of spots, that's all you need.
