Default So, would you run this oil?

Curious, would anybody run this oil in their boat. N/A, blown, racing or lake cruiser. And if not, why not. After all, it does say 'RACING' right on the bottle, and as we all know, it wouldn't say that if it wasn't. Does anybody believe the oil company that stuck this stuff in the bottle sells it as 'racing oil'? There is only one oil company I am aware of that sells regular oil as racing oil, and its not in this bottle. And maybe most importantly, do you think they are running it in the race trucks?

I wouldn't use that crap. Use only valv.in any race aplication. No synthetic. Most of the stuff on the market is pushed for marketing.

Oil change places suck also. They try sell you anything. It's all a gimick. Aditives are no different than they were in the 50's. Mistery oils and refined used oils. Most of the people who work at those places don't know anything about what they doing or selling.

Who makes the Terr. Herbst oil? Is it rated?
I used to laugh at NAPA oil till I found out it was just re-bottled Valvoline. I'm a big fan of Valvoline for straight conventional racing oil.

Yeah, it carries an API "SL" donut seal. I don't let the SL certification alarm me much. It had had some pretty leyways in the 15-20/50 oils. They closed them up alot with the "SM" certification. Steel, your smart enough to know that Herbst, PEP Boys, Kragen, Trak, and others are only buying re-labeled oil from the majors. Even more interesting is there are only about 5-6 refiners even in the lube stock business. Its a looser. All the motor oil lube manufactures that are not owned by a major oil refiner, have to get there base stock from them. Castrol is now owned by BP, Pennzoil, and Quaker State are owned by Shell. Kendall is owned by Conoco-Phillips etc. Valvoline is about the only major, non fuel refiner still in the motor oil marketing business. Valvoline conventional racing is a damn good oil, and in my opinion, could be even better than the old VR1. As for whats in that bottle of Herbst racing? I am about 99.999% sure. Still checking. But if I am right, its shocking. And to my knowledge, they run Lucas in the trucks. But that may be a $$$$$$$ and contractual thing for promoting & sponsoring races at the boy's tracks.

Really..... are they still running "bean"oil at Indy?

I wasn't asking about oil change places, I asked if you have a problem with all or just some synthetics?

If they're all just gimicks then why does every F-1 team run syn oils every NASCAR team and every team in every top class of motorcycle racing? The only place I've heard where syn oils aren't better is in Top Fuel and T/A drag racing.

What factory cars come with Syn oil off the show room floor: Poscshe, Ferrari, Corvette's to name a few.

Rolls Royce, Jag, Mercedes, BMW, Cadillac, and more recently its showing up in cars like the 2011 Mustang GT, and the Ford EcoBoost Taurus. As auto makers demands increase, and we approach SN/CF5 oil certs, there are going to more and more, and even conventional oil will have to move up to Group IV & V lube stocks, which are so refined, hydro cracked and reformed, they are damn near synthetics. When the condensing and reforming of natural gas becomes easier and cheaper, the refineries will just stop making lube stocks and it will all be synthetics, with the exception of some very specialized lubes. There are in fact some synthetics being used in TF and TA that are synthetic. The earlier issuses with fuels dillution problems is being overcome. But you are correct, it is about the only racing class that is not 100% synthetic.
But I do miss the bean oil. Run it in my weed wacker every chance I get. Freaks the neighbors out.
