Spark plugs are fairly cheap. I'd just replace it with a brand new one!!

    i hope the question was:

"What caused this and did it hurt the engine?"

Maybe the wrong reach or heat range plug? Or maybe it ran way lean?

Did I mention that 2 rocker studs where broken.... The engine was a fresh rebuild with 10 hours on it. When we told the builder about it he told us that this is the 4th BBC .30 or .60 over piston from the same manufacturer that has detonated in this manner since Janurary. It's all covered under the warranty he gave me on the build so I'm pretty much out 1 months worth of playing at the river. Could be alot worse.

So the engine was a .30 over BBC with right around 415HP. Not sure what will happen when he opens up the rest of the engine next week but I'm thinking of throwing a little more cash at it and getting it closer to 500HP. Really don't want to go much over that and have to start messing with exhaust and impellar upgrades.

Tell your builder he should consider a different plug for your deal. Is it me, or is there carbon 3-4 threads down that plug. How far was that thing hanging into the chamber.

Barry, time to pop for a 1080i monitor. Yep, no gasket is pretty much the same as too long. But I assure you, that plug was IN the chamber. Too long and no gasket Whoa. that could be bad.

Thats what I mean. Plug is destroyed 3 theads down, and carbon 3 threads down from there. Somebody f&@ked up. 3/4 reach gasket pug with a 5/8 hex. typical new alumn head plug. Betchya they were in an early iron head.

I think i'd be looking for a new builder, warranty or not... kind of hard to blame that kind of damage on piston detonation... That plug is/was way to long and being installed with no gasket...sheeze just asking for trouble...and he says had the same trouble on 3-4 others...HUMMMM...

Hope it was an iron head. Spark plugs like this one will eat the threads out of an aluminum head when removed...
Need help finding this 1973 Sanger 18'6" bubble deck mahogany bottom and stringers I was living in Pomona when I sold her in 1979. Just wonder if she still exists

Update Found my old Sanger 12/7/14 in Reno.

Yeah. But at this point, thats a non issue. Fixing that plug hole is an on the motor fix. Fixing what did that to the plug, isn't. And the alumn from the piston didn't do that. That plug has had close intimate relations with nothing less than a ring piece.
