    Default battery/alternator???

the last time i took my boat out the battery went dead at the end of the day. so i figure its a bad alternator, took it to a alternator shop he puts it on his machine and he sais nothing wrong with it.

talk to another guy and he says fire up the boat and disconnect the battery and if it keeps runnin the alternator is workin, well i disconnected the battery and the boat shut off.

it has a brand new battery, alternator puts out 30 amps like it should, what else could it be??????????

Depends on if the alternater has a built in voltage regulator, or an external regulator. If external, there your answer. If internal, I'd say the guy that tested the alternater was wrong.

Do you have a 1 wire alternator? If so you may have to rap the throttle a time or 2 to get it to charge.

has an external regulater bolted onto the front of the engine. does any boat shop have these.

its a 190hp OMC 1976 model. Is it a possibility that i might have screwed up the charging cable when i changed the starter solenoid?

When you disconnect the battery you have to run the engine at least 1500-2000 RPM it will die at normal idle.
