Default looking at motor builds OLDS/454

I am looking at a boat that has an Oldsmobile 455 engine with edelbrock intake with holly carb, but needs bearings. He said under load it makes noise.

He also has a 454, he said he can pull the olds, and sell the 454 block with it.

Is there anything wrong with keeping the olds?
can they be built pretty strong?
    parts available for it?
    Can they run a blower?

    Thanks

    can a old 455 take a blower?

which is better in the long run, chev 454, or olds 455.

I can get either one with the boat, but I want the one that is most reliable, chepset to parts, and most hp.

    This one's a no brainer.......BIG BLOCK CHEVY!
However, you will have the added cost of buying the marine parts for the Chevy (pan, timing cover exhaust, etc.) Obviously, you should pay substantially less for a boat and just a block. Jocko

In the end its cheaper and easier to build big power with the Chevy. You're talking BLOWER. Thats a whole other ball game to do correctly. LOTS of $$$$$$$ plus setting up the hull to handle it. What do you really want to do with this boat. Ski and pleasure cruise. Full blown drag boat? Hang out at the cove with a motor with a bunch of shiny stuff on it that goes rump, rump? Give us more details and someone here can help you.
