No. Only if you had a PV with a vac setting too low and you were able to create enough manifold vac to close the PV back up at high Rs. and lean your A/R. But that would mean your carb is way too small. The number on the PV has zero effect on the A/F ratio at WOT. The amount of fuel that flows through the PV is metered by the power valve restrictors in the metering block.

Gotcha...thanks. I guess I will keep pulling jets out. After you told me my plugs looked like I was pig rich in an earlier thread...I have pulled 6 jets out of each side...and she still seems rich. That puts it 6 or so leaner than the way it came out of the box. Fwiw its a domi # 8082. Could running rich at idle cause this black crap on my newly painted transom?? I am having a hard time believing my carb is that far off....before I pulled 6 jets out...I was 12.8ish to 1 on the af meter with dry headers.

Not only could a dead rich idle make your transom black, but it can make you plugs look as though you are way richer than you really are. If you can't get a clean shut down for a plug reading, and the idle circuit is pig fat, your pissing into the wind. First thing you have to do is get the idle mixture under control. Double check your float level. This plays hell on the idle mixture, as well as the A/R in the midrange. If you can't get it to co-operate with the mixture screws, you may have to restrict the idle circuit. But with 4 corner idle, you should be able to get that thing idling clean.
