Default 1x4 TR vs 2x4 TR vs Edelbrock Inline 2x4 vs Edelbrock RPM Air Gap vs Sgl plane manifo

i want to change my existing manifold set-up...presently has a 1x4 TR, Holley 750 dbl pumper, mech sec...all i'm looking for is a good turn key n/p's set-up...Boat is a '73/'76 Kona Bubble Deck with an orig BBC 427 L-88...orig Berk pump (split bowl), orig imp & orig Jet-O-Vator...this is not a race boat, but, will play! ...has to run on a 50/50 mix cause of the valves

carbs are not a problem (have too many! lol )

OK I'll bite. Why do your valves require you run 50/50.

Tunnel rams are designed for 2 carbs and should be ran as such.
And forget the Aircrap manifold........... Garbage!!!!!

I agree. The single 4 TR was the worse idea ever. If you want a single 4, go with a single plane. Personally, I would find a dual top for my existing TR and throw on another 750. Unless of course your motor redllines at 4700. then never mind.

seen many a single carb ram scorch cyl's #1&8! "mixture distribution"
problems to say the least. have run many TR's with just 2- 1850's (600v)
and they worked quite well. just remember to balance the secondary
diaphram housings (and if you don't want them to look puny, you can
always throw some center hung float bowls on 'em) think they would
work suprisingly good on your app. better than the one 750 anyway.......

I've got a top for an Edie TR, with adapters to turn 4150's sideways, and two wood 1/2" carb insulators that I'll give you a good deal on. Like new, ran 15 hrs total last season.

your funny Ray! lol ...this motor was built back when we had leaded gas...it does not have ss valves...what was meant by 50/50 was a mix of 93 unleaded & 110 av gas =101.5...it has always ran on 98+ leaded

    Blownjet 468....
that confirms what i was told many years ago by a good friend of mine who played around with a 1x4 TR..."mixture distribution" problems...worked good all out, but, not worth a damn at lower RPM's...thnx for the tip on the vac 1850's...i "was" aware of that ...also...works excellent on all 2x4 vac sec carb set-ups (750/780)

just curious...why do you bad mouth the RPM Air Gap manifold???...i have alot of friends that run it with great success!...if there's a "better" dual plane out there, i'm not aware of it!...this is a jet boat NOT a v-drive

one last note!...the orig BBC 427 L-88 which came out in late '62 (Biscayne 2dr sedan) ran the C26 (2x4 inline carbs) manifold with 2 Carter AFB's...the only person that liked the idea of running that set-up was Ray ...also...its a touch of nostagia ...just sayin'

Because the running RPM range of your jet will be beyond the intended RPM range of the Air-Gap manifold most of the time.

I'm a big fan of RPM air gap intakes, but after going over this a few times on the net and looking at my own dyno sheets I can see the argument on the other side.

A car engine needs good throttle response from idle to 3,500 a Air Gap works very well in that rpm range and then carries the power up to 6,000 or so. They work very well for part throttle applications.

A jet boat hardly ever runs below 3,000 and at WOT rev's out in a second or less. It doesn't need runners of a dual plane intake to help it build trq.

Take a look at the attached dyno sheet of what my RPM Air Gap did on my little 409". I know a couple of Ford guys who ran the Air Gaps and then put a Edlebrock Torker II on and the boats really liked it.

I'll say for most jet applications that won't be reving above 5,500 a RPM Air Gap will work just fine and be a bad choice at all.

I think you may be confused on that information. In 62 a 409 was Chevys largest production engine, available in all full size cars, and a dual AFB option rated at 409HP could be ordered.

The MK IV BBC was introduced in 1965 as a 396 in it's oroignal configuration.

On your deal I think you would be real happy with a couple of 1850's with the vacumm ports connected.
