    Default Float Level Adjustment

I just installed Quick Fuel bowls with the glass sites on both ends. I cannot adjust the fuel level low enough on all four bowls. I have two 1050 AED domintators. Transfered the floats and needles and seats from the original Holley HP bowls. I have adjusted the needles down until they are flush to the top of the bowl, and the level is still to high. Quick Fuel insists the bowls are not the problem, they say fuel pressure, maybe? I have the fuel pressure set at 7 lbs at idle. Needles and seats look fine. Any idea whats up?

Other than the float being stuck check that the needle is moving freely.

get a small hammer and whack the float bowl ( oh I forgot whose boat I was talking about)

What's 'low enough' ? Reason for asking is some bowls like BG's have you set them higher in the sight glass than Holley's.

Also, di you try another guage just to make sure your's is accurate ?

Are your needle and seats bigger than .110 's ?

Needles and seats move freely. Quick Fuel says adjust the level to the middle of the sight, I can't get it below the top of the sight. Needles and seats are .110. NO, didn't try another gauge. Took the regulator off another engine that ran fine and never touched it. What else?

Jon, hammer? You're kidding , right? Anyway, all four couldn't be stuck could they?

When I converted mine to Quick fuels bowls, I had the same trouble. But I changed the needles to QF needles at the same time I switched bowls. seemed with mine, the needles and floats didn't like each other. The float end of the needle assembly was much smaller in diameter than my Holley needles were. The Holley needles were more rounded on the end, the QFs were more like just a pin. They just didn't seem compatible with the Holley float's pad area where the needle rides. Switched to QF nitrofil floats and they worked perfectly. the QF float pad area was much larger than the Holley's were. Its as if Holley buts the radius on the needle pin and QF puts it on the float pad.

But if you just moved everything over from you old bowls, then it should work fine. the GN takes a pretty good pounding, and have had to re- tweek the little pad on the float up a little more than once. The fuel level just keeps creepy up until it can't be adjusted anymore, and I have to re-bend the little pad. Its possible that QF drilled the float mounting screws just a touch lower in the bowl.

Once you know the pressure or needles are not the trouble, try bend the pad up just a little.

Also, make certain you didn't damage the o-rings on the needles when you moved them over. When they have been subjected to gas for awhile, they aren't all that pliable anymore. I usually smear them with vasoline before installing them.

Drain the bowl and check the fuel level again.

Once it's in there when you lower the needle, the fuel level won't go down at the same time (only up).

Wow! I would like to think Ahsumtoy knows to start with the fuel level below the desired level when making adjustments.

Yeah I also lowered by fuel pressure as well. But I was running .130 needles, so I don't know if it was the needles size or the bowls. But it would creep up slowly till I lowered it.

Before you install them in the bowls. You know how vasaline works. It helps things slide into tight areas easier and with out damaging them.

Don't let it bother you. Its PETROLEUM Jelly. It will just melt away when the gas hits it. best stuff made for lubeing carb parts. And some other things
