I don't follow professional drag racing that close so I must ask. Is Procomp a major sponsor for a big time team? If so does that indicate they are selling a chitload of their knock-off stuff (junk)? I can only assume it must cost some pretty decent coin to get your name on the side of a major NHRA teams car.

You should see this A-holes US distributing warehouse. And they had to move out of the last one. TOO small. And he is selling this crap world wide! No dummie. But then, most really good scam artist aren't. If this prick was an American, he would have been partners with Madoff.

Building one is only part of the cost. Relatively small, compared to campaigning it. I believe that car made it to 3 races last year.

It sounds like their price tag is too good to pass up for many enthusiasts and their ebay presence makes for easy shopping. I know what you mean about campaigning a car. A guy in my town has a fairly competitive A-fuel car and he can only hit a few races per year without sponsorship money. Cool that he has the car and ashame he cannot pick up a sponsor or two to help with the cost.

Actually, the stuff on E-bay is being pushed by his curnudgens. About the only place you see the stuff is E-bay, machine shops, and swap meets. Just about anybody can become a dealer. You go down, get a city license, get a DBA, and bam, your a ProComp dealer. Move enough stuff, and you go to Top Tier, or Warehouse distributer Thats how he moves so much stuff. He has turned the newspaper kid on the corner with a "performance parts peddler. If there is 100 people at the movies, 2 of them are moving ProCrap stuff

Cheap to begin with and if its that easy to get set up the margins cannot be that great for the distributors. That tells me there must be a tremendous amount of volume moving out otherwise whats the point. I have a feeling for every member of all of the technical boards combined there are numerous enthusiasts out there who don't look at the net for research. However when they are ready to buy they hit Google and thats when the see the great "deals" and buy based solely based on the price. Well, most of the time you get what you pay for!

Can't put it any clearer than that. Unfortunately.

So with that much circulating around what are the reports from their customers out there? Is this chit working or are there a bunch of sorry, non-posting on forum guys out there saying "I should have just spent a few more bucks on a known brand".

Honestly, I think it's all a matter of perception. It's obviously working for some folks.
My guess is eight out of ten combinations are so mismatchced that the unsuspecting "new guy" doesn't know the difference. I mean, an honest 400hp would scare most people. A poorly mismatched 496 can muster that almost by mistake. Get a little higher in the "power and performance" chain, and I think you see less of their stuff, but some manage to make it work. Sort of. Eventually I think most learn that you really do get what you pay for. Asking for, and expecting more than the parts are really designed for I think is where trouble starts.

Steel is correct. The further up the perfromance chain you get, the less of this stuff you see. Most true performance enthusiasts know what the stuff is. They really appeal to the novice level builder, and budget machine shop engine builds. You are correct, the "competetive" pricing for the stuff doesn't leave much room for mark up. Many of the sellers promote "theirs" as being superior to the others, for verious reasons. Most of which is total BS. One guys has gone so far as to sell them as Austalian made. They are sold thru a company based in Australia. And many believe they are just another name for ProTopLine, which was sold to CompCams. I have even been told that why they have that name. Pro for ProTopLine, and Comp for Comp Cams. And that they "teamed" up to market these Buyer Beware.

I'm not defending ProComp buisiness practices or their products however there is a set of their heads on my son's '72 true flat Hondo.
The motor is a bone stock 427 with only a tunnel ram and those heads as anything other than stock. This boat runs consistent 90 mph and has gone as fast as 92. It beats boats with a lot more motor. Again, I am not defending the product just stating that with the market share that Procomp has, they have to be doing something right.
I honestly think that the Procomp heads might be a good alternative to 990's and by far the garbage 049's.
Yes for more serious builds buy a serious head such as Dart or Brodix, however, for low HP stock replacemnet, I see nothing wrong with running them. We have beaten on this thing hard and have had zero issues.

    Just saying............

There is no doubt they may have there place. I can see why someone would buy them instead of running a set of 990's. Eddy an "E" Street head out now for BBC, but it is only available as a roval right now. But the rect. is coming. Less than $900 ea. No excuse for running Procomps if you can get Eddys for that kind of money. Unless you want to be part of helping Vic go down the tubes.
