Default any Ideas wher the rpm went

Just tested my cole 26 with a 454 mag 285 hp with a performance tune this was all done bt GT performance today on elsinore my max RPM 4500 to 4600 anthing above hat the boat porpused to much the blue water trim indicator was at 2-3 anthing more porpusing and it was run wit a 21 3 blade @ a speed 54 to 55mph

    My thought

1Maybe lift the drive an inch
2Exhaust imco to increase the rpm 300 rpm and prop change usually one pitch up @ a cost of 2800
3 this is not relavent to this section but the slip ratio is 10-12% with the current set up we are going to try a 23 3 blade

*** Just for clarification 3 blade vs a 4 blade 3 is better for smooth water and is a bit faster besause of the one lesss blade the four blade is better stabilisation in rougher water and 200 rpm's less for larger prop and +200 for a pro that is smaller. Any suggestions now we are talking about a 23 3 bladefor more speed it is going to loose a possable 200 rpm's

any ideas why the rpm is down so much on this boat 5150 is red line and with a 21 3 blade should have been hittin the rev limiter. However I was only able to muster up 4500 to 4600 wot and there was performance tune put on it so I now have to run 89 octain per GT performance

    Thanks

    Mark

You really might want to call Gary @ GT..... somethings not right with any of what your saying... Isnt that cole a 25 footer.. The stock 454 mag motor is 385 hp factory, Why such a small prop I would think a 22-24p bravo based on wot of 5100 rpm .... seriousley call Gary he will mak it run

I had him in the boat today with me he suggested after market imco exhaust for 300 more rpm's. It is not right for sure I think it is in the tuning or the motor is down on power. GT did a leak down test and Gary said it checked out fine he want to try a 23 3 blade and feels it will fix the speed but that will also loose 200 RPM'S He is a great guy I just want it right and it is way down on rpm with a very small prop all the old hot boat test for this model with the 454 mag run mostly 24 4 blades and ocasionally a 26 4 blade. And the answer for the 25 foot for a cole they made this hull in 94 and 95it is on Nada boat weighs in at 4900 lbs without fuel and trailer. I hope he can get it fixed I really like the boat not a big fan of the pink and rasbury. But everthin else is perfect

It might sound dumb, but I'll throw it in...are you sure your running on all 8? I'd start with some basics. It looks like you're down about 500 rpm or so...roughly 10%. Kink in your fuel delivery line, perhaps? Look at some of the easy things first, and good luck!

did you own or use the boat with a stock tune? if so what was the rpms then... did you scan the computer for any codes? did you check all the plugs and read them? maybe your x is too low, maybe theres a problem in the drive or maybe your prop is not what it claims to be IE stamped incorrectly...

I am buying this from a private party through GT performance. Gary did the leak down test and said it was good his shop took it for a test drive before I did and as far as the tune. No I did not get a chance to run it without it. The thing is a rocket in the mid range but just hits a wall at 4500 @54 to 55 MPH it has a brand new lavorsi gps speedo this is all with a 21 3 blade that gary put on the boa. So unless there has been some sort of communication proble between Gary and I wich I know there has not been he is a very good guy a this point to deal with. He is currently checking and making some mods to improve the wot performance. Fingers crossed

Try another opinion before throwing more money at it. Could be a wrong direction thing, lot's of good ideas here about motor tune also. M

Your talking about a boat that is not only a little smaller, but the bottom is a little more up to date. And Jim was not shy about using some glass in his builts. They are stout. That thing is pushing every bit as much if not more weight than your Lavey. Just to give you an idea, I think the Howard 25 Bullet with the same engine package would have you scartching you head as to what was wrong with your boat. JMO. So comparing a Lavey Nu Era to a Cole is a little miss leading.

Default thank you for your input

ok the lavey is right on with its 5000 5100 and a 24 4 blade prop. I am familure with that paticular boat 24 degree vee and a ventilated steps. They are stout boats also and get heavy layups, it weighs in at 4000 lbs. My cole weighs in at 4900 less fuel and it has a traditional bottom with a small delta pad no steps on bottom.

Also found out today that the motor I am using isa merc 454 mag 365 hp. I had them convert it to the 454 mag F/I thinking that the only difference was the F/I for the 20 more HP. Well I was wrong the 365 has a flat tappit cam where the 385 HP 454 has a hydraulic roller.

So I am down 20 hp however, GT performance put a performance tune on the 365 hp motor. More fuel and timing to the ecu, not sure how much HP that will generate. Thinking of arizona speed claims its usually a 20 HP up grade with a new arrester. Wich was installed today,

Also on the day of the test the water at elsinore was flat glass. After realizing this, there is probably 200 to 300 rpms that can be gained if the water was churned up a bit. The cole 26 when trimed up a bit about 2 to 3 lines on the blue water trim indicator, any higher it started porpusing. 4600 was the best on that day

So we increased the tune a bit more still 89 octain friendly with a new 22 labbed 4 blade. So we will see, thanks for everybodies input it was very helpful. I was really at a loss of wheather to walk away or keep trying with this boat

If I am reading this correctly, I think you may be chasing your tail without a baseline on Elsinore first. You are messing with different props/air conditions/water conditions/fuel load (weight). Any one of those variables could rob speed/RPMs in the small increment range you are chasing with the added power.

My RPMs/speed can vary a bunch depending on the conditions, and flat, sticky water is the worst.

Also, all that Meth in the air in Elsinore will rob some power, too.

Thank you sir that is what I was trying to confirm from other boaters. So I will run her for now. Later I want to put on some imco exhaust that should wake the motor up a bit. Again it is the 365 HP mag version with F/I added on that should be a good choice right ???? The meth comment is great HaHa thanks again for your input
