Are they trying to sell them for that, or is that bidding price to get someone to haul it away? That was the worse thing GM and Merc ever pulled on the boating industry. And I blame GM more than Merc. Hell, who knows, maybe Merc got the same snow job GM dumped on everybody. But that motor should have come with a warning label.

Im not impressed with that motor at all his boat runs ok at about 74mph but sitting there at idle the damn thing shakes like hell like they didnt balance it or something they could have put a better motor in them for what you pay for a boat like that he told me he paid 70k for it. It also sounds like crap

and you would blow a gut when you see what merc charges for a CMI(merc spec/ie;cheaply made) header! like $5000.00 per side! but of course no one on this
site would be stupid enough to buy engine parts for their motor from merc! pricing is a
    joke!

I guess the jerking around could come from a aggressive cam profile but i dont think they put anything special in these motors did they. I have seen some people just throwing whipple blowers on them and that just dont sound like a good idea i bet they have cast junk pistons in them and that just sounds like something bad waiting to happen. I looked at a set of heads the other day and the intake ports look like crap kinda like one of those LS junk motors is that the new big thing puting heads on motors that are called performance engines that cant flow shit

The very first 425 hp had forged crank and pistons. GM dropped that right away when they and Merc decided they were never going to get into ramping them up. The only diff between the later ones was a camshaft and a different mapping in the ECM Biggest issue with a blower on them is the damper has no key in it. It just pressed on and bolted. Whipple made a device to put on the snout and run a drill down the snout, creating a half round key slot and using a dowel in a matching machined damper hub. Better than nothing. But they didn't recomend more than 5lbs of boost on the motor, and the original damper set up seemed to handle that OK. As for the heads, Raylar heads have a near perfect finish on them, but I just don't know if the motor and available aftermarket justifies them. Its just to bad that the thing got dropped before it had a chance. I think it didn't help that the size was a little bit of disappointment, and you could duplicate the size, and thru a shorter stroke, with a junk yard BBC and it would perform better.

He should be able to sel it though. Lots of people thinking of repowering instead of a new boat, and there are few that may upgrade from a ill advised SBC when originally purchasing.
