    Default Valves

    When putting bigger valves in bbc heads should you use a special inconel exhaust valve. Would my stock peanut port heads have these, and how would you tell? What are the pro's and con's of using them or not? I want to use different heads.Confused. Thanks.

    seriously doubt your stock peanut ports have inconels. They really aren't that neccesary in something less than a HARD running N/A, some if not most blower deals and ALL turbos. Its very difficult if not impossible to tell by looking.
    Pros, take heats exceptionly well. Its why they are required in turbo deals, and should be used in almost any good running blower deal or hard run N/A. Hard run doesn't mean you hold it to the floor for a whole 2 minutes. It means your pushing an offshore boat with 750+ hp for an entire race.
    There are some very good SS valves out there from Ferrea and REV that will handle 99% of all the N/A motors running. And do it for less than 1/2 the cost of an inconel. When you see the price of an inconel, your wallet will jump and shake.

    Ferrea is now offering "Super Alloy" instead of inconel, supposed to be better.

    Yeah, I have them in one set of heads as well. They are the chit. I REMEMBER buying them very well. I remember much better than when I bought the inconels. I thought I was buying the heads also. But nope, just the valves Most pleasure boats could get away with 6000 valves and the rest could use Competition Plus valves.

    If you don't drop a valve, they are worth every penny. Running them in the rebuilt 19' Schiada twin turbo deal.

    Hey Bob,, the Ferrea Super Alloy valves have actually been costing me considerably less than Manley Inconel

    Just so you guys know, Inconel is a register trade name like Kleenex, or Freon. Ferrea Super Alloy is not that far unrelated. the name was just changed to protect the guilty.

    The people at Ferrea told me the Super Alloy was developed in conjunction with Mercedes Benz and their turbo engines, and their claim was that it's good for 700 degrees more than an Inconel valve.

    Whether or not that is true, I have no real way of knowing.

    I have always used Ferrea valves since a circle track buddy turned me on to them.
    they are a very high quality piece at what I call "affordable" just for piece of mind!
    GN7 is the only one I have ever heard of losing the head off of one, but we all know
    how hard he runs his stuff!I have generally used the competition plus series
    with very good results even in blown applications, but they were not endurance RACE
    engines, just cove racers/lake boats- in the endurance area, like GN, OFFSHORE, etc
    buy the best you can afford.....JMLAO

    That thing had to be a freak. If I didn't thing it was, I wouldn't run them anymore. I have never seen a valve fail like that. It wasn't a matter of running it hard. It failed in the very first race. And yea, we run the hell out them, and never failed another. I held my breath for awhile after that. But not anymore. We beat the hell out of set of exhausts when the crank snout snapped. Got 6 out of 8. Not one even cracked. And two of them were really jacked up.
