who has the best bearings?

THAT TELLS YOU SOMETHING, DON'T IT. THEY BUY IT ALREADY BUILT. BBC'S HAVE A DOWN FALL. BBC BEARINGS ARE TOO WIDE. TO MAKE THEM LIVE, HIGH VOL. PUMP AND SIDE CLEARANCE ON THE RODS. STOCK BBC BEARINGS GET WIPED AT HIGH RPM BECAUSE THE OIL CAN'T PASS OVER THE WIDE BEARING FAST ENOUGH. IT BURNS AND GET HOT THEN WIPES.:)hand

Wags, so why are you holding back, tell us how you really feel about the comments.;)

As far as bearings go my opinion is this, making sure the clearances are right is a thousand times more important than which bearing you use. I use either King or Clevite depending on how I feel that day and depending on clearances. Kings tend to run almost a full thousandth bigger than the Clevites (or at least the three pair of each that I compared did consistently).

Alright!!!!, first 058 came thru on the FE thread regarding a manifold and now Wags rips with a bearing thread. My kind of people!

I have nothing. But then, it is 10:00 PM and I am getting old!
But I do have an educated guess. .002 on the mains, .0015 on the rods, P series bearings, straight 50 wt, and a heavy foot before the motor is warm. And you end up with getrdone syndrome

The "H" bearing was chamfered for cranks with large fillet radius. The new "HN" is a narrow bearing. It is cheaper to make the bearing from a material stock that is not as wide than it is to make all the bearing from one width stock and add a chamfer to the "H" series bearing. But the running surface at the crank is the same on both, so it really doesn't much matter how they clear the fillet. The change came shortly after Mahle bought up Clevite.

GN almost hit the nail on the head.. however
IF the rod bearings were "wider" they would burn the oil and spin because the oil could not flow across the surface quick enough. That is why they went narrower. :)grn

Duh, any idiot knows this... ROFL.. just jokes guys. Just jokes.

More side clearance does not throw more oil.

:stir:
Fair enough. I was so tied up in making myself laugh I did not proof read for technical accuracy. LOL
.000 rod side clearance will allow no oil to sling off the throws (well, not technically, but very little)...so, at what point does the opening of side clearance no longer let more oil sling? Would it be an area vs area thing?

Oh, gosh.. thanks for clearing that up. Now, since you straightenend me out I feel like a total **** up. Gee, now you are right on target. This is obviously why clevite went with the narrowed bearings. Oil has to flow fast and only can dso this with narrow bearings.
It has been proven time and time again BBC rods are to wide to turn rpm's and/ or live. It is clearly a fu**ing stupid design. Please tell us "engine buyers" how to fix it....
Where did you even comeup with such a dumb ass line as "they buy them already built". Obivousluy, not only do you have no idea how a BBC lives/ does not live.. you also have no fu**iung idea who is on this forum. I'm a half assed engine buiilder. Current technology has long passed me. There are real builders here. Not parts assemblers. BUILDERS! You probably have not a ******* clue what the difference is.
Can't wait.
Please say more statements that are so fu**ing ignorant I can lambast your hot rod magazine opinions again.
