    Default what Size(cfm) carb for BBC

    Need some input on what Size carb would work well with a
    489c.i.d.BBC.

    The engine is a 454 ,0.30 over bore,with a 4.25 stroke steel crank,small dome pistons,990 rectangle port heads and full mechanical roller set up, and single plane intake. Jet boat with a "B" impellor.

    I am looking for max HP.

    Is a 1050 dominator too much carb for a 489c.i.d.? If so What would be the right cfm carb? thank's .Hal

    I ran a nice marine 830 holley on my 502 bbc and it worked killer everytime! Engine made 516 at 5400, was a real simple engine with a small cam.

    A 1050 would work just fine for you.

    How high do you plan on reving it ? A 490" @ 6,400 @ 110% ve = 998 cfm.

    You just need to figure out booster's, throttle linkage and power valve or not.

    I would run a 1050 aswell. Motor that size normaly picks up about 40flbs of torque with one.

    Sleeper, would'nt a 110% VE be hard to achieve? I have read that a high performance engine ,will get about 80% VE at maximum speed,and 85% at max tourqe and an all out race engine will get about 90/95%. A highly tuned intake and exhaust system with eficient head porting and a cam shaft gind that takes advantage of the engines equipment,to provide complete cylinder filling,could obtain a 100% VE.
    I am having the heads ported, with large valves.I think it is considered a high perf engine,but probobly an all out race engine.
    That being said should I calculate CFM with 100%-!10% or should I be looking at the 80 -95 % range?
    If 800-950 cfm is required, will a 1050cfm be way to much ,or can it work as well? Thank's ....Hal

    i run a doninator on a 500" 700HP chev and it works fine. but i ain't the guy to go to for advice- i will admit that freely.

    I was just assuming that if it's a roller can engine, with a single plane intake and the boat has a "b" cut he is probably going to be reving it over 6,200 that it should be able to do around 100 ve. 110 is probably pushing it with out some good compression. It was used more as a bench mark but 100% ve would probably have been good enough. IE 907 CFM.

    Nonetheless I'd run a 1050 dominator with annular booster. I'm still not sure on the whole 2 circuit vs 3 circuit deal.

    My 3 circuit works so damn good and doesn't burn to much fuel, but it did take an extra $500 buck to get it there.

    Also how much compression are you running, I'm also assuming you're running header's ? Are you running a mech. Roller or hyd. ?

    Calc using 100% ve.

    4800 rpm =85mph. that's the last time i ran it at the enduro....at half throttle

    1050, but get a progressive linkage 2 circuit, trust me on this hal been trying to figure out my 8896 1050hp for a 5hrs(at the lake) now, and i've yet to make it work the way i needed it too never againnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
