    Default Blower Motor Questions

I just bought a 22 schiada and it has a 509 with 871 Blower. Do you guys have any suggestions on boost, bigger blower, intercooler, etc to get more power? The boat runs high 80's low 90's weighs alot and I would like to get a few more MPH out of it without sacraficing the realiability it has had over the years. The motor has been in the boat since new 1995 and has never had problems. Here are the motor parts.
    Merlin Block
    Dart Heads
    Lunati Blower Crank
    Oliver Rods
    JE pistons
    Hydraulic Roller Cam
    Weiand 871 Blower
2 CJ Engineering 750's (2 fuel pumps Electric and Manual)
My boost gauge currently reads 12-13 PSI so I only have put race gas in it. The water temp runs around 140-160 cruising then bumps up quick to 180-200 when im on it. Here are some photos. Oh yeah I took off the old powerflow exhaust and bought some new CMI Sport tubes already but havent run with them yet.

Looks like a real nice boat i would leave it just the way it is
it takes a allot of hp to get over 90 mph in a schiada.
    that's a pretty respectful speed.

I agree with Hallet above was told 1000 hp = 100 hph in those boats. the water temps seem to high for a blower motor. can't tell if you have alum heads. they help disapate heat on boost. I run water temp 120 and 140 max to help with detonation. an intercooler would be a good thing. i run richard lee's but the blower shop make a good one for less money, and the cores when you need them are about 1/2 price, if you buy one get the coper-nickle lasts much longer than alum. also what is your inital compression ratio?

8.5-1 Comp Ratio. The heads are aluminum (Old Darts) I am guessing the motor is running about 800-850 power wise and the boat weighs 4200 pounds, more when fuel is full (2 40 gal tanks) I am thinking about leaving it alone except for a good intercooler. What about the low profile whipple?

You didnt leave yours alone?? LOL I think leaving it alone is what I am going to do. But I would love to go bigger on the blower with an intercooler. I beleive you are doing the same thing.

I was just thinking with your boat being a stern drive you
might want to keep the motor you have if you go big
you will have problems keeping the drive together
i have been there when i had my two Hallett vectors.
sure is a nice looking boat.

Even with a stern drive they are not fast without alot of power. The boat is super heavy. I guess Ill leave the power alone until I can afford Max Machine billet drive.

the 8-71 isn't to bad for a pleasure 509" piece.
What i s your overdrive to get that boost? The weiand blower is..well how do I say this..it has its place. It is not a horrible piece. It is a production piece..yea, that is a good way to put it.
Intercooler...they make power..well sort of. Most guys that dyno the intercooler stuff say they are good to 75 ish hp. Is that worth the hassle to you? and $$$
I'd run it, enjoy it, and be happy.

It is actually a mooneyham. I just bought a littlefield 1071 with a intercooler 2 850 CJ's and some CMI sport tubes. Hopefully this setup will give me the same HP at about 8 pounds of boost instead of 13.

Nice boat. I'd be interested in your 750's if your going to sell them. I'm doing a similar set-up on my Hallett 240.

Hey BRO...Leave it be...That is a smoking top end for a cool ass, heavy river boat that you can fit some people and a full size cooler with room to spare. Thats the smart ticket. Nice ride!!!!
