    Default composite distributer gear

    Whats your take on the composite dizzy gear over a bronze?
    Sure would be nice if they would do as advertised and stop the wear of the gear & contamination from the bronze.

    I ran the composite for 2 years. I recently took it out and saw some abnormal wear patterns. As if the gear was riding up the distributor. There was an indentation on the top of the gear from the distributor washers. Also looked as though the meeting surface of the teeth were melted just a bit. Im back to bronze for now.

    With a wet sump AND a mag? Don't even consider it! The only time I would use one is with a dry sump and a dizzy. But then, with a dry sump and a dizzy, you could probably use an iron gear, and a bronze would last about ten years.

    hass don't waste your time with composite. go with what matches the cam gear. composites break, usually at the wrong time and place.

    I ran a composite for about 3 years with zero issues...BUT it was a fairly mild BBC with a roller setup. They work great for that synario I think as maintenance and wear is less. But when you add a mag, much higher rpm, and the expense of rebuilding an engine like yours...I'd opt for the bronze and make it a yearly or bi-yearly maintenance part. But that's just me, and I've had good experience with composite.

    Composit Vs metal gear, there are plusses and minusses to either. The metal gear will take more abuse as long as it has lube. There was an earlier thread here on the forum with pictures of composite gears after they had been run a while. You may want to check them out. I beliive you are supposed to run Iron gear on cast camshafts and bronze on forged. The are members who will know more than I.
