    Default My TPR Cheyenne ????

Hello Greg I wanted to ask you a few questions about my boat .. I am totally new to the tunnel hull boats, I have been running a Gull Wing for the past several years and wanted to get into drag boat racing so I pick up this Cheyenne.. This boat used to run PGJ and being new to this I am gonna try to run ME with it .. I am wondering with the big horse power difference how much changing am I gonna have to do with the hardware setup .. I think Jay ran around 950+ HP and I might be pushing 700. The boat does have the low profile intake in it and currently has a flat shoe in it, bottom was done by Ervin Capps with the dropped keel.. I have yet to run the boat, I just got the engine and pump finished .. Like i said i'm totally new to the tunnel world ..

    Thanks

Its the sister boat to Ron Pitts Sunday Showdown

It really comes down to shoe depth, Nozzle angle , engine placement and rideplate angle. All of these items will have to be addressed being you are taking 250 hp out of the boat and running 700 hp. Feel free to call me at the shop and I will see what set up you have now and would you would have to change for your engine. 951 272 6060

Greg I'd like to get your opinion on engine placement. I'm at 34" from transom and need to free the boat up. I'm thinking of moving the engine back a few inches. Thanks

I am also putting about 100 more HP to it for next season

Makes ya wish split shaft was available so you can try diff positions prior to being locked into buyn a solid shaft

Dare to be different, if it turns out great you can claim you planned it that way.

How heavy is the boat? How much do weight? Are you running a full droop. I assume the bottom is done. Who did the bottom?

Greg I've never weighed the boat but I've been told it was 350 - 375 lb range. It's lite !!!! Ervin Capps done the bottom several years ago, it does have a drop keel on the bottom. Mersh low pro intake and I was running a full droop last year. I have got a place mini droop to try. I'm a big guy, about 260 lbs.

When you changed from a full droop to a half droop did you notice a difference in your half track times? Anytime you make an engine change in order to see a difference 4 inches is the number that we use. If we were just starting out I would have placed the engine at 30 inches. Old Skool is at 28 inches and we have no problem with controlling the attitude of the boat. De Clark is you same size so I feel very good about this change. What you have to realize is that all of the current tunnels that are running the bottoms all came from the 19 Eliminator tunnel. The only real difference is who does the bottom. It has been my experience that Ervins bottoms respond quite differently than the bottoms we are use to running.

Greg I never did get a chance to run the place droop. I was just told and have read that it works well with the low pro intakes. If I move the engine back 4" I'll be able to move my seat back also getting me from out under the dash and more room so it would be a win win. As far as the bottom, I don't have a clue. The boat seems to run well for the HP that I have.

    Thanks for the info Greg

I dont want to hijack your thread Mike, but Greg, where do you measure to off the transom? Is it to the engine block?

    Default Measurement

We have always measured on the inside of the boat up against the transom to the rear motor plate.

A good test would be to run the full droop and then run the half droop you might be surprised at the results. Remember the lower the thrust line the more lift you will get. I really like the idea of getting your legs out from under the dash. By you moving back 4 inches you take approx. 40 lbs off the nose.

I plan on trying both of them(droops) next race to see the difference. This boat was in PGJ trim when I bought it and pretty much had to start all over with my stuff. How will it affect the launch moving the engine back ? And will it affect the azz of the boat ??
