Okay............tried everything I know of so my last resort is to confess I don't know what I'm doing.
I am trying to install a new steering cable on an 18' Sunkisst. Installed the helm and wheel with no problems. Installed new rubber groument thru the jet drive, have put the steering tube thru the groument (both ways), and run the cable thru the tube. Hooked it to the jetdrive.
Here is the problem.........what keeps the cable from moving thru the tube when you turn the wheel. I don't think it should be doing that as it would be a way for water to enter the boat.
Okay..............figured it out. I had not installed the nut on the steering tube on the interior side of the boat. When I removed the old steering cable some time ago I tossed the (interior) nut in an old parts bucket and forgot about it. Keep thinking about about it and it finally hit me. Looked in the old parts bucket and there it was. Problem solved.
