removing engine to replace oil pan. I can't pull the u-joint from the pump. This may have never been apart and I don't want to break the aluminum pump. I'm assuming it should slide off of the pump shaft. Thanks

It should slide out, its a spline gear. Keep it level and use a bar to wiggle her free.

Is this a 3 point mounting system with a short bellhousing. I t is very critical that the engine almost has to come straight out from the pump . If the driveline gets cocked it makes it hard to slide out. I this also a Berkeley E pump?

How 'bout a pic of your boat. Does it look like mine? I have a 496 Chevy in it.

It does have a 3 point mounting sys with a short bell housing. I finally got it apart. I had to cut strips of steel and position them along the pump so i wouldn't do any damage. Tapping between the steel and u-joint did the trick. Thanks again, here are some pics

Why did you have to cut steel to tap on? Just asking.... I have an E pump too. I can pull the motor myself and my daughter can help me line up and drop the motor back in off of a cherry picker. Make sure you liberally anti-seize (silver grade) that spline before you drop her back in! Velcro works well for mounts for us losers who like the motor on the floor in the garage and not in the boat!

I had the engine suspended with the cherry picker and it was straight with no binding of the u-joints. I could not pull it apart. That splined shaft connection was very tight. I'm going to have to clean it real good and make sure it goes on nice before I put it back in.
