    Default Sound from jet drive

I have a CVX-20 w/460....Mildly built- 400hp...The Jetwas a JE since modded to a JF w/ Legend impeller- including a new bearing in 2004-5. Never had any issues with it, always grease and fill the oil, but last weekend I noticed at idle(800)-2000 it has a high-pitched whine, not very loud, so far I'm the only one who's noticed it. After I got home I looked in the pump and the gap between the Impeller and housing is the same, and the shaft doesn't move up and down......I'm worried about the Bearing going out and toasting either the housing, the engine or both. I forgot to test the bearing housing for heat- would it be noticably hotter? Thanks for any info.

Have you eliminated the alternator out of the picture. Run the boat without the alt. hooked up and see if the whine continues. Can you hear this noise on the trailer. Pressure would be applied in the water from the impeller pushing on the bearing. Out of the water , unless the bearing is really bad the whine would be hard to detect.
