Default Conventional inboard vs. jet drive

    Greg,
I have an opportunity to acquire an 18' Reinell jet boat powered by a 360 Chrysler engine. I also have an opportunity to purchase an '18 Century conventional inboard powered too by a Chrysler 360 engine.
From a maintenance standpoint which one would represent the larger potential maintenance problems? The jet boat seller says the jet pump system is without a doubt virtually trouble free. It would seem as though he may be correct because I understand the conventional inboard utilizes a velvet drive transmission in between the engine and the propeller shaft.
    I'd appreciate your unbias input.

The jet is going to be an easier boat to maintain and service. The direct drive has a lot of stuff hanging down below the bottom of the boat so the chance s of hitting something and causing a lot of damage is a lot higher. Not familiar with the 360 Chrysler , could they be a 360 AMC. What pump is in the Reinell?

    Default Pump on Reinell

    Greg,
Called the Reinell owner and he advises the pump is a Panther brand. You're right, the engine is an AMC rather than Chrysler.
Thanks so much for your help.

The Panther has become harder to find parts for but they are still available. Tom at jet boat performance has parts. The ticket would be to an enigizer kit on the Panther and your problems would be solved. Jim[/QUOTET

    Default Conventional inboard vs. jet

    Greg,
Ok, thanks for the heads up on the availability of Panther branded parts. I'll no doubt acquire the Reinell. What parts would you recommend I procure from Tom ? (I normally buy ahead as I know how Murphy's Law works!!!!)
    Thanks again,
    Jim
