    Default Another stringer question thread!!!

After reviewing this project, I am wondering "why go thru all the hassle of adding stringers to a boat?" If you have a tunnel boat that was laid up for an outboard
and has a very thick transom and thick plywood in the floor why not use full length, 3/8, aluminum c-channel? I can't imagine it being any weaker than wood stringers. How about 3/8 countersunk bolts every 6" thru the plywood and the bottom. If you are going to flip the boat over and work the keel it wouldn't take much longer to fill the countersunk holes with epoxy putty, sand and finish. The pump intake is held in with epoxy putty and 1/4" or 5/16" bolts and some of the motor plates I've seen can't be that strong. Seems to me you would break the intake seal loose before the motor anyway. Looking for 750 hp and 85 miles an hour. Your thoughts? Thanks............
