    Default BBC Engine ID help

    Trying to figure out exactly what engine i have, the letters on the back of the block are difficult to read but in looks like 3963512. The threes almost look like eights so i am not really sure. The stamp on the rt. front of the block is TO7O8CPD, it has studs instead of head bolts, appreciate the help

    Block was used for the 427 in '69 and the 454 from '70-'76 both 2 and 4 bolt mains... That's all I can tell you.

    i had the same problem...pull the pan and you can see if it is a 2 or 4 bolt main...there is a stamp on the crank that can tell you if its a 427 or 454...there is also a date stamp on the back of the block to get the year...there are stamps on the heads to tell you the date and model of heads (under the valve covers)...good luck mine turned out to be bad ass!!!!!!!!

    T = Tonawanda engine plant

    0708 = July, 8 production

    CPD = 1971 Chevrolet 454 365 Mt LS-5
    .........1971 Chevelle 454 365 Mt LS-5
    .........1971 Monte Carlo 454 365 Mt LS-5
    .........1972 Chevrolet 454 270 TH LS-5
    .........1972 Chevelle 454 270 TH LS-5
    .........1972 Monte Carlo 454 270 TH LS-5

    Put it all together and the block started life as an LS-5 from July, 8 of '71 or '72. Keep in mind that was 30 years ago and there's no telling how much of the engine is "original" at this point.

    Is there another number on the front pad along with the "T0708CPD"?

    Thanks again for the info, motor runs strong so i don't want to pull it apart at this time just to find additional numbers. it has a B&M Blower, cannot even pull the valve covers without pulling exhaust to get head numbers.
