    Default Engine Hatch

    Hello all,
I have a 71 Sidewinder that I am slowly restoring. I was hoping that someone could show what they have done or point me in the right direction. Im looking to cover the engine and the sides with a full cover. I will also be building a bench so any insight is appreciated. By the way im pretty good at fiberglassing after doing the stringers, floor and transom.

That looks awesome. How did you build the structure for this?

1/2 Plywood, 1x4's and 1x2's for structure. I have a real thin piece of ply underneath to hide 1x2's and gave it something for the carpet and diamond to stick to. Got my hatch hinges on ebay and gas shocks online(they come in different lbs strength). The carb scoop I made like a fiberglass speaker box. The wood was reinforced with small bits of glass here and there then covered in sealer. My girlfriend sewed it all and will support people standing on it. I am thinking of replacing some of it with lexan. I was over at Dave's custom boats a few weeks ago and saw some of there hatches...
