Default Cheap no name Ebay headers

Has anyone used or bought a set of the cheap ass headers new off of Ebay?

They are basset knockoffs for BBC for around 300-400 depending on the listing. Sometimes with no reserve and sometimes with different opening bids.

It looks like they have no injection lines or valve either.

Anyone have any experience or a link to a thread about them? I looked and could not find anything any way I searched.

In my opinion, cheap usually means just that. They may be good but I'll wait for someone else to buy and review on their money.
As for me, I'll stick with Bassett. I have a set of Bassetts in the garage. Hopefully they still manufacture in the US.

with bassett TT SS headers over $2000, these make me wonder.

Some of the young girls in china and tiwon lay nicer TIG welds than Boeing fab guys. Sad but true. MFGing and quality are two things that USA is slowly losing.

The only difference between the big name pipes and these are the construction. Name branders seem to be ONE tube form flange to collector. The knockoffs are a couple bends TIGed together. Being a fabricator myself, I dont see a problem with the extra welds unless its a supreme showboat. The headers have nice thick flanges also.

I am looking for a long term report on fatigue. I would like to know if anyone has some time on a pair and if they have experienced any cracks or rattles from vibes busting the pipes up.

Im the first to know ya dont get free lunch, or if its too good to be true it most likely is.

But Ill be damned if Im gonna pay 15 bucks for a sammich that tastes the same as a 5 dollar foot long.

    Cool Keep Looking

I would keep looking on E-Bay for a Chinese knock-off blown 454bbc motor. You could probably snag that for a cool $1000.00

Well since engines have allot of moving parts, I dont think an import is going to cut it. Things like crappy cast blocks and junk bearings turn me off.

Do you see any moving parts on those headers?

This is not a USA vs Import thread, its a thread about the quality of a cheap part regardless of where its made. What if it turned out that they were made in Canada or the USA and were still that cheap? Would your opinion be different?

The fit and finish looks nice to me, I am just worried about the grade of SS (or if it even is) and its fatigue life span. The imports have come up tenfold in fit and finish, its just the honesty in MFGing materials that I dont trust.

Kinda like the SS knives at cutlery store that my keychain magnet sticks to. But they say stainless right on them.

90 percent of the time I dont need a vendor to find the "compatibility" of my custom parts. Most of the time I know more about the parts Im buying than the vendor knows.

All I need the ebay vendor to do is import them and ship them to me, fast and economically. I dont need his knowledge (or lack of) just his parts.

Wasnt knocking you or your knowledge....most folks with custom boats have at least a little common sense about how to work on their chit, or what it compatible. Just found the ebay ad humerous.

You know, of all the things to go cheap on, this could be one of them! So many times I've read on this forum about people using ProComp engine parts that fail, then take out everything else in the engine requiring a complete rebuild! However it always seems to me that for whatever reason, the same people that cheaped out on ProComp dist, timing chain set, rocker arms, and cylinder heads are the same people that somehow were able to afford a $1500 dollar set of brand new chrome OT headers!!

I'm not specifically talking to anyone, but some of the boaters here really need to get their priorities straight when it comes to buying boat parts. If you are low on funds I'd much rather see you buy a good high quality engine parts and Chinese headers!

I'd be all over those headers if I was short on cash....may need some tweaking, but they should easily last a good few seasons in a boat without too much trouble.

This is how I decide if its worth buying cheap stuff.

Figure a new set of SS headers cost $2000. And lets say since they are high quality they last you a solid 15 seasons.

Well, if I'm going to buy a set of $300 knock offs I only need them to last me 2.5 seasons each to justify buying them for the next 15 seasons!! Because after that same 15 seasons if I had to replace headers every 2.5 seasons at $300 a pop I still would have only invested right $1800 for those 6 sets over the 15 year period....still cheaper than 1 set of Bassett's

Just over 2 years on each set seems pretty easy if you ask me, even for the cheapest of headers!

The other aspect though is this: if you are looking specifically for performance, then these aren't going to cut it. If you are primarily looking to go boating....I'd do it for sure!

    .
Really? You figure thats the ONLY difference? Go to a metal supplier and price just the small tubing to make one set. Not the collector or flanges. Just the tubing to make the primaries up. See if you can buy just that material for the total cost of those headers. Then tell me THE ONLY difference is the "construction".
You have any idea how many grades of SS their are, not even counting the QUALITY of each grade? Or the THICKNESS of the material?
Same morons that buy the Procomp Heads.
Makes me wonder if you would think they were such a great buy if you dad or bother worked at Bassett. But they don't, so what the fuck do you care, YOU'RE SAVING MONEY!!!!!!
