Default GPS speedo failed with Hardin reciever.

So my Autometer GPS speedo is jerkin' out and not reading anything.

It was new 2 years ago and has worked fine until this summer. When turned on, it goes through it's start up like always (9 o'clock, 12 o'clock, 6 o'clock then zero).
Then it just sits there and doesn't move. (Yes, the boat is moving!)

The recall still functions, and I tried clearing it, which worked fine also.
Could this be the battery in the Hardin receiver that I have read about?
If so, can this be changed out at home?

I have another receiver (new) that I can install, but would like to fix this one if possible so I don't break up a new set on the shelf.

    Thanks!

Hardin uses the same receiver that Livorsi used in the past. You're right about that being the problem. They fail like crazy. The battery goes out and it is not something you can replace yourself. Livorsi had a deal going where you could send your old unit in and for $125.00 they would send you another battery operated unit, which will only fail again in 3-5 years. Even though yours is only 2 years old, that doesn't mean it didn't sit on someones shelf for a long period of time. The last series of white round puck style receivers that Livorsi was selling were non-battery type units, they ran off the boat's 12V power. These were the best. Livorsi has since changed their design completely and they are no longer decent enough looking to mount on top of the dash. They mount under the dash now.

I have tried to change the battery in one, even seeking the help of an electronics repair shop. The way the battery is spot welded for lack of the proper term, into the unit, you destroy it trying the get the battery out.

Try Livorsi to see if they have any 12V units left over. You'll never have to deal with the battery problem again.

Bob we are still getting and selling the round ones (late style batteryless).

OP yes likely battery failure is issue. Few had success replacing battery themself and Livorsi isn't doing it any longer to my knowledge. Livorsi has an informative dignostic check procedure link on their website if you're in doubt of the problem.
