Default question on oil n cooling

So im making progress with this boat got oil changed tried to fab a drain plug but no success with such little room im just going to order a kit, but im trying to get a list for the 460 . ive been reading up on it alot and im guessing 40 wt oil any certain brand or maybe castrol high mileage? i have 80-90 wt gear oil for bowl on the list, marine grease for pump shaft bearing and input shaft when i put new pump on, is there anything else to recommend or will that do it, And also pump is off so input shaft is loose i dont want to start motor yet so with log type headers and risers can i just run hose to water pickup on the tee and flush out everything ? Im not to knowledgable on this but i beleive logs and risers dont actually ingest water into a cylinder like bassets and such right? Plz help with some input , thanks guys.

I use VR1 20/50. I use lucas red and tacky for the grease. Do not start you motor if your bowl is off and the drive line is still hooked up!!! If you have logs/snails exhaust...this style is double walled so no fear of just running water thru to clean out. Do you already have a garden hose hook up plumbed into your system after the shut off valve?

mine has a hose that comes from bowl with garden hose male end then on motor itself has a female hose end that is t'd and ran to go up thru headers in to block out thermostat housing into risers and out the transom exhaust, it has no shut off valve hooked up anywhere guessing since stock no ones ever messed with temp settings just cool water in/out. i just want to flush out cause i found a couple peices of looks to be impellar pieces in the water inlet off pump , the boat was a project i picked up so tryin to read as many forums in jet section to find anything pertaining to jets , impellar was horrible so i bought a new pump from tom at jbp , he is a kik [email protected]@ guy, and bought a new steering setup, just making sure i go over as much as i can so first float isnt a long paddle...lol

I would pull the logs off and undo the block drains just to clean out any sand/gunk...this takes a while but well worth it as you have to turn on/off water constantly and shove a straw/zip tie up in there as water on/off to get most sand out. I do this at least once or twice a year and get at least a coffee cup full of sand every time. The main line coming in off pump should have a on off valve to stop water if you blow a hose. I have a ford as well and run the gate valve all the way open all the time with logs....Post a pic of your set up.
