Put the primer on with a roller to get a stipple effect like a golf ball and then speed coat, it works! If it's good enough for Billy B, just sayin'.

....I guess he's been out of the loop for a while:

but back when he won 9 Championships over a 12 year period ........ the speed coats slowed him down vs his standard bottom prep.
I will look for up-dated info. Thanks.

hmm last i heard that boat was using a graphite finish with a bit more prep and finish work than others. Maybe you graphs from signies boat show other finishes?

    interesting......

if you take the total sq ft of surface area that's touching the water at speed ( probably less than 6 sq ft) if would be very interesting to see if Speed Coat vs Ron's old prep work ( flat black paint with a light sanding) makes any difference at all.

All I know is the bottom of my boat has speed coat and I can slide it around on the trailer with very little effort.
You all mentioned sqft of surface contact, maybe it depends on the type of racing. Might be a bigger improvement on a circle boat than a drag boat?

I don't get any Barnacle build up in the speed coat areas, most all my wet area is sanded, and the last few feet of the sponsons, and 7 feet of the center pod are speed coated.
