october 2002. one month after dale and frank went over. tim goodwin was the driver for rich sr. until that run. after what had happened the month before, a lot of people had second thoughts. at the rio bravo friday night during registration, tim (who is 6'2", 210-220 and a lot younger) got into an argument with rich (who was older, 5'8" or so, maybe 175) over how the boat was going to be run. they stepped outside, and tim proceeded to get his ass kicked by the old man. next morning, tim's walking around with a huge shiner, and rich is climbing in the boat. rich was like the first pair, or maybe second, in the morning. i was in the staging lanes, so could hear it more than see it. richie jr. was in pitt's boat being launched at the moment it happened. pulled out on the rope and didn't really know what was going on until rescue came and got him. rich was messed up for quite awhile. healed ok, but was still feeling it years later.

Hey Bob, guess who? It's Tim Goodwin! I'd like to clear a few things up! Frist off Rich and myself have never fought I would do a lot of yelling and at times wanted to kick his ass butt nothing ever happened like what your saying! I drove the boat all year except for the finals, a couple of weeks prior Rich and myself talked about the set up in the boat and we did not agree on the set up so I told him I had to work and I would not be driving at the finals so he tried to find someone else to drive and no one would drive it so he got in it! I showed up at Ming Sunday morning and was talking to Papp and he was filling me in on what Rich had been doing that weekend he told that rescue had told Rich to put the boat back in the water two times on saturday and he made no hardware changes but he did find out that there was a filter screen in the inlet side of the fuel pump that was pluged up so he took it out so the boat made more power on the run that it blew over! I was standing on the beach next to Papp when the crash happened! Papp told me after the crash that if I was in the boat the crash would have never happened! I felt really bad about the whole DAM thing but he would not make the boat safe! Now the black eye and scuffed fore head was from him and me messing around at a race earlier in the year! He kept pushing me and running away and one time before he ran away I jumped at him he started falling backwards and I was afraid he was going to hurt himslf so I grab on to him and we both fell down , because I'm so much more taller them him and holding on to him my fore head hit the ground pretty hard this is how the black eye and bleeding fore head came about! You need to remember that he was kind of a father figure to me and I could never hit him! I loved the old man and miss him alot now! Hope this clears this up! Tim Goodwin That Real Prop Duster!

In analyzing videos like this Lots can be learned but this one brought up an interesting question. The angle of attack was a bit high but then got into a small oscillation which grew until the blow over. What caught my eye was something blew off Rich as he was leaving the boat after it went a bit past 270 degrees, in one frame it looks like it has the colors of the boat and some white straps. Was this any safety gear, his pants, or the seat upholstery leaving the boat with him? It's probably insignificant but just wondered. Any one know his injuries at the time. his entry didn't look straight even though his feet hit first. He is also very lucky the boat didn't land on him it looks real close.
