no router work .there is a grove that the stringers sat in.thats prolly what looks like a router cut. only tear out of the completely rotten balsa .the tops of the tunnels were balsa.stringers were soft all the way up to the front seats.the bulkhead and rest of the stringers will come out.as far as cutting the cap off.well a i guess it crossed my mind but i cant say i WANT to.prolly have to cut it off to properly fix the boat though..

Here is mine, started the teardown in 2007, and finish in the fall of 2009. I cut the pod, even with the air plates, it will have a pop-off one day.

    x2

Dont cut the pod. Leave the intake where its at. No bottom mods really needed other then a good blend job on the entry of the intake. Air entrapment plates wont hurt anything, but will help.
put the motor in the stock location, 12" drive line.
Man, you have a lot of work ahead of you. Good luck.

I would cut the cap like mentioned earlier, it will make your life alot easier to do the work you need to do. Looks like alot of wood rot in there.
Did you cut the glass off the transom wood?

3oz mat. then set the stringers in and weight them down. Let that cure, then glass the rest of the stringer.

adding glass to the pod/transom corners was a routine bandaid to try and control the inevitable cracks that will occur in the corners. shows up as cracked gel or paint. doesn't really hurt anything and can be run that way, but kind of shows where the weak spots are. those are 90* corners, and they were not strengthened enough, considering the pressure applied from under the boat. you get that thing on it's tail, bouncing off chop, you should be able to envision the stress on those corners.

if you have to find somebody skinny, find somebody skinny. don't reinstall the front bulkhead until the cap is tabbed back on. but there's a ton of grinding, sanding, glassing work to be done on the bottom. trying to reach around those gunnels is a pain in the ass anyway. trying to reach around them to do what this thing needs will wear you out in a hurry.
