    Default 460 budget rebulid

    got my first jet boat this weekend it was supposed to be running but needed starter rewired. so I get it home wire it and it just grinds against the fly wheel pull the vavle covers off and it looks like chocolate milk so I guess im rebuilding what cam should I go with as well as other things I can do to make it reliable.

    There are a lot of variables to get the correct answer you're looking for. What boat (brand, hull design, weight, size), pump (and mods), intended use, block (casting numbers), heads (casting number, what mods already), etc.? Just because you've got chocolate milk in it doesn't always mean you need to rebuild it. There are other ways to get water in the engine (ie. leaking intake manifold gasket, excessive condensation build up, rain getting in through intake or valve covers). So you may want to check these things out before you jump off into a full rebuild. Good luck with your boat.

    I feel for ya. Same thing boat listed as turn key everything external on engine looked great but found a small crack in block after first run out. Have a full sheet of papers showing a fresh rebuild done same year I bought the boat. Hate people that can't drain them right for the end of season.

    First thing I would do is isolate the exhaust cooling and pressure test the block and heads. If it has logs and risers I would check them too .

    the 460 ford is notorious for leaking at the timing cover and the intake manifold. Also if the dip stick is clean oil it could just be condensation. Good luck!

    Totally had the timing cover issue with mine, don't get totally discouraged yet.pull the front plate off the timing cover and check back in the corners for corrosion or holes.

    Yes it is all to common. aluminum against cast iron and the timing cover will eat itself to death with electrolisis. Not common on cars due to better grounding but in a boat?????

    Well got it pulled and tore apart looks like the bearing in front of the clean oug hole seized up now I gotta figure out how to get it out. Pulled the motor its got a comp cam comp lifters roller rockers I think the air cleaner leaked but im gonna got though it since its apart anyway. Just wished there was someone near me go lend a hand sucks learning the hard way lol

    Open system doesn't help either. We see it all the time at work. Close systems can run with no inhibitor and run for decades. But the open systems, we ground the hell of them, add inhibitor and still pray a lot.

    I have experience in off-shore boats and almost would recommend a zinc plate as the "forgiving" metal but that would go over like a fart in church on this site. But it would slow down the corrosion factor big time. Electrolasis between dissimular metals and a weak ground! Go figure. Kinda explains why intakes eat the area around the water port!!!!

    Any pics of a zinc plate setup in a boat? It makes sense.
