if you want the sounds of gears in your boat, buy a v-drive. I've seen gear drives run in boats before.

    Sure you can.

Better be ready to enjoy listening to it at far higher noise level than you are used to having the engine block between you and it, firewall too.

Having it sit 6 feet behind you and whining directly at your ears may not be as much fun hour after hour, but heck, it's your boat. Go for it. Make sure to get the "loud" gears, so as to get the fullest effect.

It does get annoying after a while, had one in a truck of mine and removed it after awhile cause thats all you could here was it screaming along. Get a blower if you want to hear something at least its worth it then!

In my opinion as far as noise goes, i have a gear drive in my boat and it works just fine but with the loud exhaust and pump noise i dont hear it.My boat has a blower on it but you can hear all the noises and where there coming from and i cant hear my gear drive. Mines a cloys so i dont know if there is a noise difference from say a pete jackson which i had in my first truck and could hear loud as the day is long, but i suppose in a quieter boat with thru transom exhaust you may hear it very well so i guess i dont know sorry for taking up valuable space.

mine is thru transom exhaust and is not loud at all for a jet boat, everybdy tells me not to go with ot cause it sounds good the way it is, so maybe it will be to annoying with it, being no other noise really coming from engine..

Its all personal opinion if you like the noise or not, if you go with a pete jackson you can get a quiet or a noisy they have 2 options.

    Default Gear Drive

I have a Pete Jackson gear drive in my boat..no problems. Really can't hear it that much but I have Bassett headers with a major cam..that little whine from the gear drive is nothing..I don't know if I would go through the trouble and expense just for some noise..

My boat is pretty loud with T/T exhaust. I have a noisy Pete Jackson. The gear drive is really only noticeable at idle and just off idle. Once on plane I really cant notice it much.

    Talking

Just get a belt drive and get the quiet effect. Noisy is easy, quiet is hard to do. And expensive.
