Default thrust bearing heating up ??

just replaced the thrust bearing & must have done something wrong, gets real hot after only a couple minutes. Any Ideas? also is there a preference to an 8 balls or 11 balls per side bearing, whitch is better ?

how hot is" real hot," bearing will get "pretty warm " while running, do you have an infrared probe to take its temperature. i recall researching this for a customer, the bearing rep said the operational temp on the bearing is in the 120-140 degree range , generally warmer that one would think if you have never had reason to touch it before. if concerned aggressor has an excellent bearing at a very resonable price. have installed many with no failures. p.s. the notch on the aggressor goes toward the bowl. verified with aggressor and the engineer at the mfg.

Same engineer who told you the notch is there to let grease in??

Running the bearing with the notch in the wrong direction usually won't cause failure; it will just degrade it and shorten the life

didn't measure with a infared gun but i couldn't put my hand on it without it hurting. Definately over 140. I got it back apart last night & dont see anything obviously wrong with the bearing. rolls free & smooth, did notice some silvery stuff in the grease- not sure if its metal particles or excess antiseize frome the slip splines. Will anti seize lube getting on the bearing cause bearing problems ?? Never had any problems with the bearing before i replaced it & the only reason i replaced it was becouse i already had the suction housing off the boat & thought i would go ahead & put a new one in for preventative maint. but then again i never really felt the bearing temp before, i just happened to feel it when checking everything over after getting it back together.

Keep in mind, heat from the engine will travel throught the drive line to the bearing so...some heat will come from that also.
