    Default 460 knocking

I recently took my boat out over the weekend and I noticed a little smoking coming out of my driver side breather then later on in the day my engine developed a knocking. I know it’s a vague description but does anyone have any ideas what it might be??

assuming oil pressure stayed up I would say piston. Run a compression check. M

Holed a piston, got debri on top of the piston and took out a rod bearing or shortened a rod and still took out the bearing. M

I think like Mark said, your going to need to do a compresion check. I would also do a visial check on the valve train. Does it still run the same at the exception of the knock and smoke?

Yeah. As soon as the I heard the noise I stopped the boat. Then I turned it back on and let it idle to the launch ramp. I couldn't hear the noise at idle and almost no smoke.

    broken ring land ?

pull the plugs put a socket on the crank and rock it back and forth if you think it has a spun bearing.

    if it is spun,
the knocking is usually the piston hitting the cylinder head.
stock car truck oil pan ?

i have a low hour used 460 engine im putting on craigs in few days.
I believe its stock. I haven't touched that part of the engine yet so I don't know.

If you would have revved it or put alittle load on it the noise may have reapeared. Still wondering about any change in the oil pressure???? M

I didn't think to check the pressure. I was to concerned with the noise but I should have.
