    Default jet pump

hey guys new to the sight had a question about my pump. it is a berkley dont know what model or how to tell but the problem i am having is a growling noise coming from what i think is the bearing on the inside of the transome, i greased the fitting but still there, just bought the boat. they told me it had just been gone through, is it ok to use it, or tear it down

first off there is a tag on the top of the jet that should say 12jc-a or something similar find that and that wil tell you what model you have, also were you running in water or on the trailer?

Find the noise, It could be the bearing, or maybe even a u-joint. Could be a problem with impeller to wear ring clearance, or impeller to bowl clearance. I would fix the problem or it is likely to grow into a much larger problem.

yep, 12je's aren't known for making much noise at idle, i've owned 3 of em. pulled the motor loose and mover it forward, see how the pump shaft turns without being hooked to motor. it shouldn't take ya 30 minutes to move the motor far enough forward to get a feel for it. to rebuild the pump, the motor will have to come out.

Heavy impellers (stnls and Brnz) and worn pumpshaft/driveline splines some times set up "machine noise" which transfers thru the boat as a loud growling grumbling noise Typically heard sometimes at idle or if run out of the water it can sound horrible , this noise however goes away when the impeller gets a load on it (just off idle) . Much else would likely suggest front bearing or ?? inside the jet IMO Call if we can help you diagnose it further Tom

If you just bought the boat, "just gone through" to me says "we need to sell this thing now and we have not used it for years", pump could be "fresh" but could have been sitting for a while, if from Arizona probably not rain water, but could have had water sitting in the boat for a while and rusted the main bearing.

Be safe and dig into it.

    Good luck!

I have read and reread this post several times. I want to believe this.
I have rebuilt my "H bar", replaced my "H bar". Had my pump rebuilt by Dave at GT Boats in Cordelia, CA and still have the"noise". It is only at idle. I can 'twitch' the throttle to get it to stop, if only for a moment.

    I do have a Berk, 12jg, SS A.
