    Default found a cam...maybe...

    comp cams cca-11-654-47
    mechanical flat tappet
    duration 282/290
    lift 590/598
    valve overlap 28.0
    lobe center 110

    with the pro comp heads im considering and 8.5-1 compression...

    250hp 3000rpm 475 lb-ft
    400hp 4000rpm 525 lb-ft
    500hp 5000rpm 535 lb-ft
    540hp 5500rpm 515 lb-ft
    550hp 6000rpm 475 lb-ft

    this was using desktop dyno, i plugged in a lot of cams and this one delivered the most between 3000-5500 rpm. only thing im worried about is reversion with my water injected headers. but i think with it dry at idle ill be ok.

    ANY THOUGHTS?

    If it's a blower engine it could be OK. Is the duration @ .050 lift?

    its not a blower motor, hp and tq don't look right for that plus the lobe center isn't right for a blown motor imo.

    take those heads in and have a proper valve job done and have the guides checked, the guides are usually a bit tight and the valve job is awful on them as cast. also make them a full rect port, the 3/4 port don't cut the mustard

    The reason I asked was because the compression is so low.

    No that would put the adv dur at 330/ 340.

    That ( this) cam would be approx. 232 @ .050

    BTW, What type engine ? I don't think that cam will like 8.5:1 comp. That might be a little soft ?

    i dont think that calculated it right . thats alot of HP for that low of CR with that size of cam ... wish i had a calculator like that it prolly say i was near 1000 hp lol .. just remember compression makes power .. 8.5-1 is basically Stock CR or pretty much Blower motor CR .. that might be alil too much heads / Cam for the CR .. you wanna make 550hp why bother buying good heads a set of 990 chevy heads can handle 550 HP pretty easy but your gonna have to bump the CR UP.. pump gas today can pretty much handle a 10-1 cr.. much more then that and you need the good stuff .

    according to desktop dyno making it 10-1 compression would add 50-70hp across the board. the reason i have the compression low is right now it has forged crank/rods/flat top pistons with only 50 hours on them so it seems like a waste of time and money to tear into the rotating assembly and buy new pistons. and i dont think i could mill the heads enough to boost compression without bouncing the valves off the pistons with the amount of lift i have. If i HAD to change the pistons then i would go with 12-1 and run E-85 and buy a new carb....if i ever had to run race gas i could just switch carbs no big deal.

    and the heads arnt set in stone, basically whatever i can find for a good price. this build is for next season so if some nice sed heads pop up for sale ill probably pick them up.

    this is with desktop dyno 2003, 850 carb, single plane high flow intake and the flow numbers provided by pro comp for the heads out of the box.
