    Default Marine Carbs

Is there any tuning benifit to buying a marine carb or is it all a matter of safety? Do you pick a larger carb for a boat than you would for a car?

All a matter of safety. Usually jets run anything from a 750 on up from there. And I'll probably get flamed for this, but as it has been told to me from [email protected] and Jim Coffey @ Performance Jet, always run double pumpers/mech secondary on a jet boat.

Doubt it matters a great deal.

The Holley's you can be sure will run very well right out of the box.
That doesn't mean a little tuning won't improve things, but they will be "close enough" the first time.
My 30 year old 4150 Double Pumper still runs prefectly, from idle to flat-footed and everywhere between.

    Don't know a thing about QF's.

If you want a lot of part-throttle mixture dist. troubles, untill you spend a LOT of time tweaking every possible adjustment on them, buy a Demon. DuaneHTP has seen a LOT of those problems on the 572CID crate motor installs he dyno's before the install, on an 8-O2 sensor setup. They come with a Demon, and usually leave the dyno with something else.

My all around choice for a regular boat carburetor is the 0-80537 Holley. They're pretty hard to beat for the money, $447.87 is what we get for them. They are a 750 CFM mechanical double pumper marine carburetor. See below.

I'm runnin' this exact same carb (got "scammed" by Duane on it of course ) and I'm pulling an American Turbine AB impeller to 5400RPM with it on an RPM Air Gap manifold. The only issue I've had with it is I'm still trying to get the primary accelerator pump dialed in on it, but transition from primary to secondary is so smooth you can't even tell when you're hittin' the secondaries. Jetting and power valve is stock and I've had absolutely zero problems with it.

Even RonJane will tell you it's the best bang for the buck

What's your "dial in" issues with the primary accel pump Jet? Mine is as is from the box, and has always worked perfectly, even from a full idle to a flat-foot-mash. No bogs, holes, nothing (once the engine is warmed up).
My jetting IS one size richer all the way arround, so that's not quite "100% box stock" I suppose. lol.

Thanks Duane. Was thinkin' about calling Don's Pump Service to help me with it instead lol j/k

The issue at hand is just that the accelerator pump needs to be dialed in. While I understand what the accelerator pump does and its purpose, due to the fact that Holley offers quite a bit of tuneability with being able to change squirter size, pump cam, etc etc...I have no idea which to start adjusting first.

The original squirter size is a 0.028", or a "28". With that one it seemed to bog off idle when I'd hit it abruptly. So I swapped the squirter to a "32" (0.032") and now when I hit it abruptly it seems to start to rev up, bog, then rev up again, almost like its revving up twice.

If you can PM me a number where I can get ahold of you today I'll give you a call on my lunch break.

What jets do you end up running on a stock big block with the 750? Mine has 72/84s in it? I wanted to do a little tuning in this area, but ran out of season up here. The primary side was popping once in a while at 4000 on colder days.
