    Default Need to start somewhere.

I would like to start learning the things I need to know about my jet boat.

I know it has a Ford 460 engine. it is running a tunnel ram with 1 Holly 800 carb.

I was told the lower end was stock, but that the cam was replaced with a wilder one when the fella rebuilt the engine, and that the heads had been worked over heavily, including adapting them for BB Chevy roller rockers?

What things do I need to know about the jet parts? It is a Berkeley Jet, and I know he added a Diverter and he mentioned something about changing the impeller and the grate?

Anyhow, it would help if you all might be able to offer me some advice for a guy that doesn't know anything about the setup.

Its a 77 Tahiti Super Tiger Bubble jet, 18'.

Let's start with what's important with the jet. You mentioned the grate was replaced. If a loader was put in you need to take a close look at it. There is some really good charts and pictures on Tom's website JBP Jet Boat Performance, if this piece breaks it's gonna hurt the people in the boat. It's like throwing on the brakes hard and boats don't have brakes so it's never expected.

Next is the grease fittings, read about it and lube it.

Learn your engine as best you can. Simple maintenance like changing the oil & filter every year. Listen to it closely and get used to what you hear. If something changes stop and figure it out. Learn your temp & pressure readings and keep an eye on them always!
