    Default Installing Helmet restraints

ok, so it looks like i need to drill into the helmet and install these things. Talking to kent it he said on the sides i should do it just below where the chin straps are and then follow that back to the rear. On the front just below the vents. There's not much room to work with in the front on this helmet. He said i need to pull out some of the foam to bolt it up and then glue it back in. Any of you guys have any advice/recommendations on this or have some pics of this process. I want to make sure i do this right the first time!

As much as I would have liked to use double sided tape to stick mine to avoid drilling my expensive brain bucket, I had to drill it and you also have to tear back the padding to get the nuts on. It sounds like you are on the right track.

stix818, thanks thats exactly what i was looking for. I wasnt sure if i should drill that low on the helmet, on the sides i can move up a bit but on the front i either can drill way at the bottom or way up top.

Right on!! I see what your talking about with the front. I personally think you would be okay just below the vents in the front. Good luck!! Are you trying for Phoenix next month??

I have done a few. On the inside I use about a 5/8" roto broach ( looks like a baby hole saw) and it makes a nice clean hole in the foam. Then the washer and lock nut are counter sunk real well and the inner material covers over the hole.

All done, kind of trippy pulling a helmet apart like this, I had this one down to just the shell! There really doesnt seam to be all that much to these things. Some foam, some padding, and hotglue.

I am glad i pulled it all the way apart though, they really dont do all that great of a job glueing in the cloth/padding. I took the hot glue gun and glued down every peice of loose cloth i could find. Should make it stay put a bit longer.

I attempted to line them up with the neck strap bolts using and straight edge with the 90* elbow. Not any flat surfaces to press it up against but each side should be the same The rear one i think i got a hair off to the left, but it's just bearly off.
