    Default Jacuzzi tear down

    So I decided to take a couple of months off and "Look at" and replace some things.

    first on my list was the Jacuzzi Wj. No one has ever torn the pump off this boat. I'm dying to see what the Wear ring and impeller look like.

    To tell you the truth i was a little Skeptical. first time i ever tore into a pump.
    But ill try anything once.



    so I got most of the stuff disconnected. I did have to run to the hardware store for a bigger crescent wrench (that's a big nut on the steering tube) which I found out First disconnect on the inside of the transom then the out side. Thats when I came across this



    looks to be a rubber grommet, gonna need a new one!

    I also had to drill out on of the allen heads on the diverter control bracket due to someone stripping it and it be really stuck in there.



    I finally got to the part where it was time to take the Transom adapter off. Man was that a pain.







    That's about as far as I got today, due to the fact that I was taking my time and labeling and bagging everything. I'm sure people can do it faster but hey its my first time.



    Every time when I thought I was stuck I wanted to pick up the phone and give Tom @ JBP a call but personally i get alot of satasfaction of learning about somethign and doing it my self.

    Tom you will defenitily get a cal when i come up with the parts list

    Keep the pictures and write up coming. I would like to see how to check the clearances between the wear ring and impeller.

    from what i understand the Jacuzzi's are just plug and play if you will. Just throw them on and go.

    I am at a stand still though, I preceded to remove the pump today but the damn thing wont come out the the transom hole. I think its because of a 1/2 pipe for the water pick up to the block. and that thing is on there! I might have to cut it off. I had to take the hand hold cover off too. They cut that hole perfectly for the pump and the pump only....

    Hmmmm time for the Sawzall !!! (not) JK take off the cleanout and disconnect the gate valve??

    what he said... or split the bowl from suction housing... jacuzzi is a very simple pump

    well I finally got the pump out today. I got the 1/2 pip out with some oil and hard work. but the pump still wouldn't fit threw the hole. I think they put this pump in from the inside. So i had to drill a small hole so the pump could squeeze by.





    Now the fun begins....



    that nut on there was harder than hell to get off. there are two small allen head screws that go in there but even with those out, a lot of brute force.
    force!

    the next big thing was getting the Impeller off. I tried several methods but it did not want to come off. It took a 12 ton press and a tourch for it to finally Pop off. I then tore the whole thing down.





    don't know how much longer that bearing would have held up, there seems to be no grease in there. So I will clean that out and repack it.

    I found several dings and dents in the impeller





    This is the funny part it looks like someone at some point tired to fix this.



    Now its time to strip and paint everything and get the parts together.

    good job... did you take the wear ring out or was it missing?... the jacuzzi is a simple pump... not much voodoo in side like people think
    throw it in reverse

    Its got a few dings doesn't look too bad though. Is that an alluminum iimpeller? That is a Jacuzzi A which they say is like a Berkly AA. Has it been cut down? And what does it weigh?

    I'm wondering if TOM can work his magic on it maybe rework it see if we can save it! I believe It's a B, There's a Big "B" stamped into the front of it. but then again what do I know!

    I want to say It's stainless, it has to be 6-7 pounds. I don't know what work has been done to it if any.

    The wear ring is still on there I'm going to try and pry it off tomorrow its a little stubborn. It really is not all that hard its just getting the stuff off that's been on there for 20+ years is whats hard.

    Amazing !it does looks like a stainless ! kind of a rare piece , "tink" with a screw driver see if it "rings" . re the W/R its stnls too in which case it MAY be hard stuck ? if it wont pop out readily you may have to use a "cut off wheel" to split it (eye protection) If the Impy is stnls indeed it can be repaired machined and rebalanced. Your Brg grease looks a little rusty /milky I would reuse it personally ? Time for a pump kit Bro ! Tom

    It does "Ring" Which is why i think its Stainless. and the W/r is Stainless also. the Bearing rolls fine and sounds fine (no dirty or anything) which is why I think it can be reused. I will call you tomorrow about parts.

    Sorry i didn't get a chance to give you a call back we were working our ass of trying to get that impeller off!

    Well it took a small army but we got the WR out and it is Stainless. First I cut it with a Cutoff wheel. Didn't even budge!



    then we took a torch to it, that loosened it up so we could beat it out. there's so much rust and corrosion on there its unbelievable.





    after it came out i discovered my rookie mistake, i cut too far with the cut off wheel. i hope that's repairable with out loosing too much efficiency.

    That bearing takes every pound of force pressing against the impeller, by all the pressurized water behind it, several THOUSAND POUNDS at least.
    Figure 150psi against every rear-facing surface the imepller has, measured in square inches. a 2"x3" surface will have over 1,000 pounds on it.

    Is your impeller, suction housing, and crankshaft worth the chance of a rusty $100 bearing?????
