    Default Tunnel Ram Advice

So I'm getting ready to install a newly acquired tunnel ram from my single carb setup can you guys give me any advice on what challenges I may encounter. Throttle cable, fuel system routing/requirements, clearance issues, performance expectations, I don't know anything you guys can give me a heads up on would be great. BBF Offy TR carter 625's replacing Holley 850dp
    Pics would be great!!! Thanks
Shhh!! Can you hear that?? GJ

    All that and more.

In particular, it's a tight fit between the distributor and TR on the BBF. I used the MSD Pro Billet Part No. 8577 and there's only about 1/8" clearance between it and the TR so real tight. Mine's a Weiand and not an Offy so you might have more room than I did.

After having done this I would recommend not doing it. I made the switch quite a number of years ago and it ran fine on the TR setup with a pair of 660's, but there were no gains. My old 850 dp on a dual plane manifold hit the same numbers and was easier to keep tuned. It was a lot of work and money for bling. For the past two years I've been plagued with carb issues even after paying a professional to rebuild them both. Just recently purchased two brand new carbs in an attempt to get it running like it should. I should have left well enough alone.

I've seen guys post up gains when switching to TR setup would rival a blower swap, but I got zilch. I think on a 10:1 or lower compression deal with mild cam it's pretty much just a waste money.

If I had it to do again I'd probably go with a Victor JR single plane manifold and a single 1050 dominator.

This is just an opinion based on my personal experience with a similar situation.

Yeah sorry about that. I'm sure that wasn't what you wanted to hear.

I paid a ridiculously low price for my TR and the two 660 Holleys. I figured at $250 for the TR and carbs how could I go wrong. I paid another $250 to have it polished and later another $150 to have it ceramic coated because I'm too lazy to keep polished pieces polished. I rebuilt the carbs myself a couple times over the 10 years that I ran them and like I said, they worked fine, just never got any gains from the swap.

I'd be curious to hear some success stories of people with relatively low compression (10:1 or so) mild cams going from single carbs to TR and duals and getting significant gains, but I'd be surprised.

Dan, I have a BBC with 10:1 deal, I put a edelbrock tunnel ram with (2) 850 demons, I gained 40mph when swapping from a single plane holly deal.
