    Default Jeep Question

This is probably the wrong forum for this, but any of you pull your 18 or 19 foot jet boat with a 4 liter Jeep before? I have been thinking of getting myself one but I hear they aren't the best for towing. Only thing I would pull with it would be my miller and it aint that heavy.

Thats why I was curious about their 4 liter six... I definitely wouldn't chance it behind a 4 banger...

I used to tow my 18 footer with my 4.2 Wrangler, did OK, had enough power except going up Cajon pass, would only do about 55 topped out in third (five speed), the 4.0 has more power, the brakes worked fine but the Wrangler's high center of gravity made panic stops kind of tense. A Cherokee would do much better.

Ive pulled tahiti with my dads 4.0 jeep and put lots of miles on my wifes liberty with the boat behind it the only problem comes in is at about 70 it will start to whip alittle but at 65 its great the 4.0 is a little better than the 3.7 in the liberty but I dont have a problem towing the boat with it at any distiance. Also I know a guy that tows a 2 horse trailer and a couple big horses like 1000+ pounds each with 4.0 jeep he pulled both horses from Las Cruces NM to Scottsdale a couple times no problems just keeped it at about 65.

My Taylor has been towed many times by a Mazda B2,000 p/u (4-banger) back in the late 80's.

The truck did acceptably, but, was at it's limits, esp. with 3 adults in the cab.

I don't think its pulling the boat you need to worry about. The stopping at high speeds would scare me with the short wheel base. The boat might just push the jeep. I've seen a couple of jeeps launch boats and they basically slide down tell the boats in the water.Fun to watch just glad there not using my jeep

I have a '05 Rubicon and I have used it a couple times. It is not designed for towing. I'm not saying you can not do it, it is just not a good idea, but to each their own.
