    Default Berkeley 6JD-16

Does anyone know anything about the Berkeley 6JD-16? parts availability, how much HP will it handle? are they any good? I'm thinking 11 to12 foot flatbottom with a mild 2.8 gm 60 degree V6 and this pump. Will it work or not?

Call CP Performance on Monday and talk to Rick. I don't think there are any parts but they do have the pumpos, or fif have last year. Someone else came across one and was putting a V-4 cylender GM or Ford motor into a small 12' boat he came across.

You bought that one off ebay didnt you? I asked the guy selling it and he said the motor he had put down between 35-50HP. Quiet a range there... The motor was a Brut 432 cc engine, he was selling it in a seperate auction.

I bought the berk 6JA from a guy, from what i found the pump was designed to handle 25.3 [email protected] I'm planning on throwing 100-120 HP at it. Probalby going to have to figure somthing out impeller wise but if my mini work swell, chances are i will switch over to a pump from 2si.com, already talked to them and the largest pump they make handles around 110 hp or so.

Couple pics of my project, sounds like your doing the same, or want to.

When i got it, this guy loves his wackers...

    Stripping it down...

Deck off, removed bulk head(s) and transom wood to replace.

Thats as far as i've gotten with the hull so far.

Pumps looking like it's going to have to be set way back, plan is to make a pod like the southwind dragster

Here's the motor thats going in it, Ford V4 from a saab sonnet. Engine block is 13" long, 16" or so assembled.

That should get you the results your looking for.

Project is going slow, i've been pretty busy and now i have things i'm trying to do on my boat too. I watched those video's you sent me, thanks for those, they where very informative and gave me ideas. Hopfully i can get some time to work on it here soon. The engine part of it is being a pain in the ass, those ford V4 motors are a rare thing and only a few make parts for them, and the parts are not cheap. Trying not to break the bank too bad this winter

Trenyly, as stated that little jet was built and intended for very small hp , you'd be better off to check into Agressors junior jet or a merc sport jet

That's pretty much the same idea, and yes this the one from e-bay. the boat is the TNT from glen-l . I stretched the plan by a foot and a half and been going back and forth between V-drive and Jet (already have an old Hallcraft drive & allthe hardware ) this is going to be for my two boy's so I wanted the luxury of reverse so tht's why we're going to try the jet first.

    Trently,
Here's some info I scanned awhile back for someone else that needed it.

btw, Tom is right, if you're wanting more hp, the Aggressor Jr would be the way to go.

Thanks Cas for the scans, After checking out the JR pump it would probably be the best choice but since this is going to bean EXTREMELY low budget build and we have both drive systems (Berkeley and V-Drive) in our handswe'll have to go with one of these. As far as the jet goes I wonder about a different impeller as the shaft and body apear to be plenty strong for what I'm thinking of

I think Rick at Berkeley/CP Performance told me that have either a bunch of the 6JA's or B' but no parts, still silling in the wear house.

you're welcome. as far as the impeller, if they're available, a stainless steel would be best if you're wanting to add more power than what's recommended. You might want to check with Aggressor to see if the impeller they have would fit yours? And also if it would be able to handle more power.

I've swaped back and forth a couple times between the idea of a v-drive also because of the limited space i have to but the motor up to the pump. After doing some research i found out v-drives are alot more complex than just slappin a prop out the bottom and mounting the v-drive. Placement, shaft length, shaft hight/degree, motor placement, etc all comes into play. Also with kids i didnt like the idea of the shaft runnin up by them.

The agressor pump would be sweet, i looked at it too, but the price is way too high. 2si.com has a pump that is ideal for lower hp applications. What i plan to do is use the 6ja pump and if things with the boat work well then i will fork out some money for the 2si pump. Back when i first got the berk 6ja pump i did some research and i remember reading about a company, want to say they where called scat, could make a impeller for them.

How much HP does the GM 2.8 60 degree V6 put out? Cause that might be a little more power than the little 6J can handle. But i don't really know, just throwing it out there. Good luck with it, keep us posted on what you decide to go with, and how the project turns out in the end.

With those factory specs making nearly 6,500rpm @ 20 hp, I sure hope you can find a bigger imepller than the one they charted.

100+HP, well, you'll never open the throttle wide, that's for sure.
