    Default Motor

Question for you guys. Would a chevy 350 motor be a good motor for my boat? If not, what would be.

I have a 1979 mantra three quarter stringer. The boat is a project. Just not sure the 350 has enough torque or power for me.

How big is the boat? What are you looking for as far as speed? What has been done to the 350?

The boat is a 19'. I'm in the beginning stages of looking for a motor. Speed wise it doesn't matter. I'm new to all of this. So I really not sure what to look for or to stay away from. The boat it self is a project. No motor, no interior, the only thing it has is the jet.

In that size boat, most people on here would likely go for a Big Block Chevy or Ford. The 350 would push the boat and get it on plane, but you won't win any races.

I run a stock-ish suburban roller motor (L31), RPM intake, 750 holley and headers- gps'd 55 with 3 people and gear, all day long.
18' bow rider- not a hotrod, but not gramps' bayliner either...

I have a stock 350 in my 18' Tahiti. It works just fine, but sadly the rumors are true... I haven't won any races. lol

Best I've seen with 2 on board is 49mph (GPS)

I know with a 350 I won't win any races. Just want the boat in the water. My pockets are not that deep for a bigger motor. Just something a can move around the lake in.

You're right Paul. Been ordering parts for a build the past few days. Just ordered turbos yesterday on Impatient 1's recommendation (see where this is going). Should be a fun project that put's my knowledge to test. Might need some of your help along the way, expect a call or 2 in a few months.
