There was a boat company called California Boats. In 75 or 76 they changed there name to Caribbean Boats.

If it's a 1973' and it still floats, I'd say it was in 1973 a good boat. 41 years later, I'd say it all depends on how it was babied or abused.

Be careful. These old boats can become a slippery slope. A good deal soon turns into a small fortune. We've all slid down that slope before. If you're not absolutely in love with it, consider the dumping it and buying something that is turn key. A locked up engine can start out at $1k and add up to $10k really really fast. $500 glass repair can grow to $5,000 in a single pull back of old carpet.

I second that. Check my "Longest Build of my life thread." My boat was pretty clean when I bought it. But under the surface is was screwed, blued, and tattooed. 7 years and close to 13k later I have a working boat.

That being said... it was worth every damned penny and every damned year I spent on it!

    According to the MIC database:

'CAL' WAS CALIFORNIA BOAT MFG CO, SANTA ANA; OOB 3/81. ASSIGNED TO CATMAN MARINE PRODUCTS, PO BOX 800064, LA GRANGE, GA FROM 10/88 TO 05/90. NEW COMPANY: C & L CRAFTWORKS, INC. MODEL: FAST SKIFF II-14-1/2FT BOAT. 012814 - AJK - MIC DETERMINED OUT OF BUSINESS AFTER S PHYSICAL VERIFICATION VISIT.

    MIC Database Detail Search Results

If it is a 73 that is the first year HINs were mandatory. Info should be somewhat accurate if the title actually belongs to that boat.

My son in law has a bare California hull. The coast guard tag inside says California Boats by Royal Fiberglass. It has no HIN on the transom. I'll try and get a couple of pics of it to post up.
