    Default More Cable Woes!

My the 78 Taylor. Whoever hooked up the steering must have been on crack! When you turn the wheel right, the jet turns left and vise versa. What the hell?? It has to be something about where the cable hooks into the box at the helm. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Yep, I accidentally did this to myself when I replaced my helm setup 4 years ago (bad cable). It's just 4 bolts, leave the wheel and all in place, and flip the rack from top to bottom, or vice versa, as aplicable.

The test drive was really "interesting", since (I followed the instructions) I didn't actually check opperation before getting it wet. (dumba$$ me)

Soon as I backed off the trailer and spun her, she spun backwards, and I knew what was up.

On a right hand drive yes, assuming the steering cable is ran along the starboard side of the boat.

However, on a left hand drive where the cable is ran along the port side of the boat the rack should go on bottom.

What is the minimum radius you can bend these cables? I am going to have to replace a cable on the boat I am picking up and it has two 90 bends at the back of the boat that just dont seem right to me. I know the boat has the original rigging that it came from Commander with but it just seems too severe to me.

Joe we like "large sweeping" turns of no less than 18 to 24" (9 to 12" radius) These cables will work with tighter bends but cable life will be drastically reduced from cable top jacket "chaffing" . We often find cables routed all the way to the transom for example then across and another tight bend to exit the transon/ steer tube. We try to route the cable to drop out out behind the rear seat and straight back under the motor instead if possible ( again two large sweeping turns)... Tom

I/we (admiral & I) drove around for about a half-hour, on a really small lake (Harvey County East Lake, more of a big pond really) before trailering it (was there doing engine break-in anyhow). Small ovals at cruising speed.
Managed a decent job trailering it.
Reversed it the next day. LOL

That depends on which side of the boat the helm is located. Left side it gose under the helm, right side on top.

Depends on the drive too. The instructions were backwards is why i screwed it up.

    Helm is on the left.
MOST jets steering input on left side (like my new Place Diverter).

My Berk "F" pump, Steering on RIGHT side, so is backwards. This is where it screwed me up, and the instructions did not consider my insert pump.
I think an "E" steers same as an "F", cables on the right side.
